Antoinette “Anne” Marie Olson was born on September 7, 1941, in Chester, South Dakota, to Harold and Marie (Hagedorn) Olson. As a young girl, she moved with her family to a farm east of Pipestone, where she grew up. Anne graduated from Pipestone High School in 1959, before moving to Sioux Falls where she worked as a bookkeeper until July 28, 1962, when she was united in marriage to Dennis Bowman. The couple went on to live in Montevideo, Minneapolis, Maple Plain, Montrose, Valley Springs, Beaver Creek, and Jackson. Each destination provided special, life-long friendships.

Anne spent much of her time volunteering wherever she was needed. Through the years, she served as a Sunday School teacher, a Bible Study leader, a board member of the Jackson Chamber of Commerce, and a youth ministry teacher at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. Most recently, she worked at the Abiding Savior Lutheran Church preschool where she enjoyed interacting with the children and their families. Her Christian faith was an example to all who knew her. She demonstrated the love of the Lord through her words and actions. Her faithful prayers have carried many of us through life’s challenges.

Anne especially loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and her sisters and brothers and their families. Her grandchildren described her as energetic and always up for an adventure. She enjoyed traveling around the United States and to the Holy Land, attending exercise classes at the gym, and meeting friends for coffee or lunch.

Anne will be deeply missed by her two daughters, Dennette (Arnold) Marks, Fairbanks, AK, and Kari (Timothy) Flachman, Rock Hill, SC; six grandchildren, Grace and Elise Marks, and Josiah, Caleb, Jordan, and Nathan Flachman; two sisters, Ethelyn (Norm) Fey, and Lois (Bruce) Kooiman, Edgerton, MN; three brothers, Lyle (Ruth) Olson, Faribault, MN, Harlan (Kathy) Olson, Sioux Falls, SD, and Wally (Pat) Olson, Plymouth, MN; and sister-in-law, Linda (Roy) Moeller, Hardwick, MN; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Anne was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Dennis Bowman, in December, 1999, and by her sister, Gwendolyn.

    Denette and Kari and families,
So sorry for your loss!! Anne was a great lady. She was my cousin by marriage to my cousin Dennis. I always remember her as a gentle, kind person. The world has lost a special woman, but God has gained such a worthy soul!! I visited with her on the phone when I was doing the Schlapkohl family history book. She was so happy to send me pictures of your families, and she wanted to pay for 2 books so you could each have one. I will not be able to attend the memorial service due to health issues that prevent the 6 hour drive one way. But you will be in my thoughts and prayers!
Take care! Lynette (Schlapkohl) Skolte, Mora, MN

So sorry for your loss. I got to know Anne when we would exercise at Active Generations. Although we have gone to different places to exercise, we would still get together once a month for supper.

Denette & Kari – remembering your mother with such fondness and so sorry for her passing. She so loved taking trips to see each of you and we so enjoyed hearing about them before and after those trips. Have thought of you often Denette and the great visit we had with you and Arnold in Alaska way back in 2001. Keeping your all in our prayers – Sam & Pam Tracey, Jackson

  • We are saddened to hear the loss of your sister, Marie. Praising God for the life she had shared with you and your family. Praying the love and fond memories you have with each other will ease the pain and loss. May God’s grace surround you in these difficult times.
My sister, too, is battling with cancer and getting to the worst these past few days.
God is Sovereign and His will for her will be done.
