Ben Ewald, 72, Sioux Falls, died Saturday, January 28, 2017, at the Dougherty Hospice Home in Sioux Falls.

Visitation with family present will be 5-7pm, Wednesday, February 1, 2017, at Heartland Funeral Home, Brandon. Funeral Services will be 1pm, Thursday, February 2, also at Heartland. Burial will follow at St Michael’s Cemetery in Sioux Falls.

Benjie “Ben” Edgar Ewald was born April 4, 1944, to Edward and Ardell (Judish) Ewald, at Brown’s Valley, SD. He attended country school in a one room schoolhouse. Upon completion of school, Ben worked in the local area before he moved to Sioux Falls. Ben began a career working at a box company known as Stone Container Company. He worked as a label designer for over 44 years. In 1964, Ben married Jean Collins and the couple had three children; Brenda, Rebecca, and Bennett.

Around 1990, Ben met a person who truly rearranged his life. Ben met Linda Timmerman through a personals’ add and romance bloomed. Ben and Linda spent most of their spare time going to auctions, especially farms, and collecting various items. Among those are McCoy cookie jars, Country-Western albums, Stationary Engines, and old radios. Ben also loved restoring a ‘43 Willies Jeep, Farmal Tractors and participating in Black Powder Shooting events. Ben enjoyed billiards, John Wayne movies, western novels and reading about and discussing history. Ben’s sense of humor and continuous practical jokes will truly be missed by all who knew him.

Ben will be deeply missed by his Special Friend of 25 years, Linda Timmerman, Sioux Falls; his children, Brenda (Kirby) Kirsch, Sioux Falls, Rebecca Ewald, Sioux Falls, Bennett (Stacy) Ewald, Omaha, NE, Eddie (Deanna) Tounjian, Sioux Falls, Stephanie (Larry) Juaire, Brainerd, MN, Dan (Theresia) Tounjian, Sioux Falls and Jessica (Garretson) Shaw, Sioux Falls; sixteen grandchildren, Michael, Andrew, Karley, Breana, Jonathan, Hannah, Jack, Gregory, Andrew, Kayane, DeVante, Catrina, Casandra, Mike, Josh, and Derek; two great-grandchildren, Henry and Karsen; and five siblings, Edwin Ewald, Baliton, MN, Glen Ewald, Rodey Ewald, Joice and Karen.

Ben was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Ardell (Judish) Ewald; and one sister, Vivian.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.

    Now he won’t only be admired but even remembered from the deepest of our hearts.

    We will miss his fabulous humor and talks about Jeeps and black powder. He always had a joke ready for me and I will defiantly miss that. Rest Ben we will see you on the otherside.
