Carol Ann Cook

August 9, 1937 ~ May 27, 2023

Carol A. Cook, 85, of Brandon, SD, peacefully passed away on Saturday, May 27, 2023, at the Luther Manor in Sioux Falls, after several months of health challenges.

Graveside Services will be held at Black Hills National Cemetery, Sturgis, SD, on Thursday, June 1, 2023, at 1:00 pm.

Carol Ann Hanson was born on August 9, 1937, to Roy and Anna Hanson in Viborg, SD.  After graduating from Hurley High School, she went on to obtain her teaching certificate from Augustana College. After graduating, she found her passion in teaching Special Education in the Sioux Falls and Yankton areas. Carol also worked with her husband (Charles Cook) of 45 years, in many business endeavors. They owned and operated the Army-Navy Store in Yankton, SD, and two hotels in Rapid City, SD.

Carol’s marriage to Chuck brought together five kids, Dennis Cook (deceased), Alvy Cook, Daniel Wegner, Debra Fleming, and Catherine Robinson.  Her love and loyalty were deeply felt by her five kids, nine grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.  She spent her time and talents loving on everyone, sewing, and kitting special gifts for her family. 

Carol is survived by her children, Alvy (Connie) Cook, Las Vegas, NV, Daniel (Bricy) Wegner, Mission, TX, Debra (Rick) Fleming, Omaha, NE, and Catherine (Jon) Robinson, Denver, CO; nine grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren; and one sister, Glennys Case, Pierre, SD,

Carol was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Cook; one stepson, Dennis Cook; one granddaughter, Allison Schmidt; and parents, Roy and Anna Hansen.   

Her beautiful smile, great sense of humor, strength, and loyalty will be her legacy.
