Cheryl A. Thorson, 66, Sioux Falls, died Saturday, March 19, 2016, at the Dougherty Hospice Home in Sioux Falls.

Family visitation will be 5-7:00pm, Thursday, March 24, 2016, at Heartland Funeral Home, with a short service at 7pm. Inurnment will take place at Hills of Rest Memorial Park, Sioux Falls, SD, at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in Cheryl’s honor.

Cheryl Ann Scott was born August 7, 1949, in Grand Island, NE, to Robert and Eleanor (Elliott) Scott. They family moved to Sioux Falls when Cheryl was eight years old. She graduated from O’Gorman High School in 1967. Cheryl met Dean in Dell Rapids at a dance in 1967 and in 1969, she married Dean A. Thorson Sr. in Brandon, SD. The couple resided within the Sioux Falls area, while Cheryl worked at Lemmon’s, Pace Manufacturing, and finally, Gateway, where she retired. The couple had two children; Angela and Dean Jr.

Cheryl loved the outdoors and camping. Fishing and hunting were favorite family pastimes. Many trips to the Black Hills, Newton Hills State Park, and Lake Vermillion where they spent time making many memories with their family. She and Dean also took trips to San Diego, Daytona and Sturgis along with many trips to Flandreau to the casino for special events. Cheryl loved to cook and brats stew was a favorite of hers. She also will be remembered for her crossword puzzles, word games, and Bent and Wiggleys and her favorite phrase with her grandson was “Big Pimpin Now!”

Cheryl will be deeply missed by her husband, Dean Sr.; two children, Dean (Jennifer MacRunnels) Thorson Jr, Sioux Falls, and Angela (Doug) McLeod, Kansas City, MO; eight grandchildren, Bryan (Melissa) Riley, Leavenworth, KS, Kayla (Kevin Thomas) Riley, St. Joseph, MO, Bryanna Thorson, Tijuana, MX, Shelly McLeod, Liberty, MO, Megan McLeod, Plattsburg, MO, Hunter Bergh, Sioux Falls, Samantha Anderson, Sioux Falls, and Eryc Thorson, Sioux Falls; six great-grandchildren, Brooke Drake, Tristin, Remington, Braden, and Journie; two brothers, James Scott, Alexandria, VA, and Denny (Nancy) Scott, Trinidad, CO.

Cheryl was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Eleanor (Elliott) Scott and one sister, Sandra Eggers.
