Daniel Thomas McMunigal

December 8, 1951 ~ July 12, 2019

Daniel Thomas McMunigal, 67, Sioux Falls, passed away peacefully at Good Samaritan Society – Sioux Falls Center on July 12, 2019. He was supported in his passing by two sisters, his friend Lisa and numerous residents and staff at the Good Samaritan Society. 

Dan was born Dec. 8, 1951 in Sioux Falls, SD to John L. and Jean D. (Bassing) McMunigal. He was the oldest of seven children.  Dan grew up in Sioux Falls, attending St. Lamberts Catholic School, Whittier Junior High School, and Lincoln Senior High School from which he graduated in 1970.  Dan attended Dakota State College for one year, then began his working career at the South Dakota Human Services Center, Yankton, SD, and Northwestern Bell (telephone company) both in Sioux Falls and Tucson, Arizona, where he worked in various roles. Health issues forced him to take an early retirement.

Dan enjoyed cooking, crafting and handiwork; he was always interested in news of family, particularly nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Dan is survived by his father, John “Jack” McMunigal of Sioux Falls; six siblings, Pat McMunigal, Sioux Falls, Gary (Judy) McMunigal, Larchwood, IA, Mary (Mike) Rathbun, Sheridan, WY, Carol (Dick) Sevier, Boise, ID, Tom (Lisa) McMunigal, Longmont, CO, and Lynn (Mike) Kristos, San Marcos, CA; eight nieces and nephews: Megan (Henock) Melaku, Breanna Kristos, Abby Sevier, Emma Sevier, Thomas (Ashley) McMunigal, Lee (Danielle) McMunigal, Shawn Munns and Cammie (Curtis) Kvamme; and six great-nieces and nephews, Mattias, Lucas, Hailey, Khloe, Connor and Calla.

Dan was preceded in death by mother, Jean D. McMunigal.

Dan’s family would like to thank the staff and residents of Good Samaritan Society – Sioux Falls Center for the care and support they provided him.
