Darlene Mae Nelson was born December 20, 1937, in Sioux Falls, SD, to Arndt and Edith (Parker) Nelson. She attended school in Sioux Falls and graduated from Washington High School in 1955. Darlene began her working career as a secretary and a bookkeeper. In 1957, she married Richard Ageton and to this union, three children were born. Darlene worked for Ravens Industries, American Standard, R & L Supply and McFarland Supply over her many years before retirement. In 1980, Darlene married her true love, Wes Busse, and expanded her family with his two children.
Darlene truly was a family focused woman with her kids, grandkids and great-grandkids. They meant everything to her. She attended many of their activities. She also was known for making several sweets and treats (banana bread) for the grandkids and kids. She loved to entertain friends and family and decorate with flowers and centerpieces. Arranging flowers was a hobby she truly enjoyed. She enjoyed caring for her husband by cooking healthy foods and caring for herself by attending water aerobics. Darlene truly loved Christmas. She created a legacy by sharing the Christmas story with her entire family each year. She also blessed her children and grandchildren with the tradition of Christmas stockings stuffed with creative items including homemade jams. She also was a great teacher and displayed Christ’s love to everyone.
Darlene was an active member of Linwood Wesleyan Church with Bible Study and the Missions Ministry.
Darlene will be deeply missed by her five children, Tim (Cheryl) Ageton, Sioux Falls, Kathy Ageton, Sioux Falls, Lee (Teri) Ageton, Brandon, Brian Busse, Sioux Falls, and Carrie Varesio, Glastonbury, CT,; nine grandchildren, Erin, Kristin, Jim, Sarah, Amanda, Melissa, Ryan, Joshua, and Kylie; five great-grandchildren, Kodie, Masyn, Brayden, Owen, and Macie; two siblings, Alvin “Buzz” (Lois) Nelson, Sioux Falls, and Donna Wolsey, Boone, IA; and one sister-in-law, Thressa Gallipo, Sioux Falls.
Darlene was preceded in death by her parents, Arndt and Edith (Parker) Nelson; her husband, Wesley; and one sister, Betty Wilde.
