Darrell Wayne Gustafson, 70, Sioux Falls, died Saturday, December 5, 2015, at the VA Medical Center in Sioux Falls.
A Celebration of Life with Darrell’s family will be 5-7pm, Thursday, December 10, 2015, at Heartland Funeral Home, Brandon. Inurnment will be Friday, December 11, at the Black Hills National Cemetery.
Darrell Wayne Gustafson was born April 30, 1945, in Sioux Falls to Eric and Minnie (Landgren) Gustafson. Raised as one of ten children, he attended school in Sioux Falls. He joined the Army in October of 1965 wherein he received a Bronze Medal in the Vietnam War. He was joined in matrimony to his wife Dianne Fuehrer on December 12, 1972, wherein they were blessed with three children. Darrell worked for Business Aviation for 15 years where he was eventually forced to retire due to declining health.
Darrell enjoyed working on foreign cars and restoring old cars. He enjoyed watching NASCAR as well as Old Westerns. He also liked to garden and work out in the yard. Every year he would spend time working on his tomatoes. One of his greatest passions was cooking. His family will forever miss his vegetable beef stew. Darrell also enjoyed fishing in his leisure time.
Darrell will be deeply missed by his wife, Dianne; three children, Donny (Amber) Gustafson, Dawn (Andrew) Zych, Dustin Gustafson of Sioux Falls, and; ten grandchildren, Jessica, Eric, Kevin, Michael, Jacob, Kaleb, Ashton, Noah, Caden, and Baby Daisy; and one great-grandchild, Brantley.
Darrell was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Lyle, Leland, Leonard, Robert, and Dennis; and four sisters, Shirley Sichmeller, Donna Hayes, Carolyn Delseg, and Lorna Reichelt.
