David Lee Helm

Helm_04-02-2010_21-27-13 copyDavid (Dave) Lee Helm, 64, Brandon, died Saturday, June 28, 2014, at the Dougherty Hospice Home in Sioux Falls after a lengthy illness.

Visitation will be 4:30 to 7pm, Tuesday, July 1, 2014, at Heartland Funeral Home, with family present from 5:30 to 6:30pm. Funeral services will be 1:00pm, Wednesday, July 2, at Heartland Funeral Home, with Fr. Terry Weber officiating. Interment will follow at St. Michael Cemetery in Sioux Falls.

Dave Helm was born June 13, 1950 in Sioux Falls, to Clarence and Vicki (Shodak) Helm. He attended Eugene Field Elementary, Whittier Jr. High and Washington High School. Dave held many different occupations including a mechanic, a police officer, owner of H/H garbage service in Brandon, and as an over-the-road truck driver. Most recently, Dave drove for Sara Lee.

In early years, Dave spent a lot of time deer and pheasant hunting with his family. Dave also was a huge race fan and Huset’s Speedway was a big part of his spare time. He co-owned a car with Kelly Egan and worked on several cars. He boxed as a kid and continued to enjoy watching the sport throughout his life. Dave will forever be known for his storytelling and joking with people.

Dave will be deeply missed by his wife, Helen; seven children, Tim (Naja) Lemke, Sioux Falls, Christina (Bruce Crawford) McGregor, Sioux Falls, Jon (Kim) Helm, Sioux Falls, Steven Helm, Sioux Falls, Clarence (Jessica) Helm, South Bend, IN, Nathan Helm, Brandon, and Patrick (Shannon) Helm, Brandon; twelve grandchildren, Katie, Jordan P, Samantha, Makenzie, Dylan, Jordan C, Carys, Ayda, Mila, Mia, Shaylee and Zane; two great-grandchildren, Taylor, Amelia, and soon to be Baby Boy Page; two brothers, Darrell (Linda) Helm, and Dan (Joyce) Helm, both of Sioux Falls; and one sister, Jeri (Tike) Robinson, Sioux Falls, many nieces and nephews and Dave’s best little buddies, “Beans & Pooh”.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents and one son, David (Dave) Joseph Helm.
