Dean A. Thorson, 68, Sioux Falls, died Monday, July 16, 2018, at Avera McKennan Hospital.

Memorial Services will be 1pm, Saturday, July 28, 2018, at Heartland Funeral Home, with visitation beginning at 11am. Inurnment will take place at Hills of Rest Memorial Park at a later date.

Dean Allen Thorson Sr. was born in Sioux Falls to Oliver and Marvelle (Christensen) Thorson on July 31, 1949. He graduated from Washington High School and was drafted into the Army where he served two tours in Vietnam. He married Cheryl A. Scott on June 4, 1969 before he left for his military service. He returned home to his wife and new daughter, Angela. Dean, Jr. was born in 1974. Dean Sr. took an interest in being a mechanic and studied at Southeast Tech. He worked as an auto mechanic most of his life.

Dean enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, cooking, races at Huset’s, and family activities. His grandkids were a great source of pride in his life. The family toured the Black Hills, Wyoming, and Devil’s Tower. Dean traveled by car and toured the Southeastern US, California, and Idaho.

Dean will be deeply missed by his two children, Angela (Doug) McLeod, Kansas City, MO, and Dean (Jennifer MacRunnels) Thorson Jr., Sioux Falls; eight grandchildren, Bryan Riley, Gladstone, MO, Kayla (Kevin) Thomas, St. Joseph, MO, Bryanna Thorson, Tijuana, MX, Shelly McLeod, Kansas City, MO, Megan McLeod, Atchinson, KS, Hunter Bergh, Sioux Falls, Samantha Anderson, Sioux Falls, and Eryc Thorson, Sioux Falls; eight great-grandchildren, Brooke, Drake, Tristin, Remington, Braden, Journie, Hudson and Hadlee; three siblings, James O. Thorson, Coon Rapids, MN, Jerrold (Pam) Thorson, Sioux Falls, and Carol (Roger) Knudsen, Sioux Falls; and a sister-in-law, Joanne Thorson, Corcoran, MN; and many more nieces and nephews.

Dean was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; his brother, Dale Thorson and sister-in-law, Diana Thorson.
