Donald P. Butzke, 69, Sioux Falls, formerly of Brandon and Sioux City, IA, died Thursday, May 21, 2015, at the VA Hospital in Sioux Falls.

Private family services are planned.

Donald Paul Butzke was born August 7, 1945, in Akron, IA, to Walter and Irene (Keogh) Butzke. He was raised in Sioux City and graduated from Sioux City East High School. Don met Virginia Sharum in high school and the couple were married in 1966. The couple was blessed with two sons, Jeff and Mark. Don went on to serve in the US Army during the Viet Nam War. Upon completion of his duty, he returned to Sioux City and began working for IBP and Tyson Foods as a meatpacker for over 30 years.

Don and Virginia loved to travel to different casinos and visited many in the local area as well as Las Vegas. Don’s life-long love of 39 years, Virginia, died in 2005, which devastated him. Due to declining health issues, Don spent most of his time lately in the Sioux Falls and Brandon area in VA care facilities.

Don is survived by his two sons, Jeffery (Aura Lea) Butzke, Moville, IA, and Mark (Melanie Hill) Butzke, Sioux City, IA; and three grandchildren, Austin, Prestin and Chase.

Don was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia, parents Walter and Irene, and one brother, Garold Butzke.

    Don was the kind of person you could always depend on. Always a good friend, good
    natured, and a great person to be around. Had only seen him a few times since Virginia
    passed away. He will truly be missed.
