Dorothy Thompson, 88, Sioux Falls, died Saturday, May 25, 2019, at the Southridge Care Center in Sioux Falls.

Visitation will be held 5:00 to 7:00 pm, Thursday, May 30, 2019, at Wesley Methodist Church, Sioux Falls. Funeral Services will be held at the Onida Methodist Church, beginning at 3:00pm, Friday, May 31st. Inurnment will follow at the Onida Cemetery.

Dorothy Jean (Tennant) Thompson was born August 10, 1930 to Donald and Mildred (Kuhns) Tennant in Gettysburg, South Dakota. She lived on the family farm and attended school at Vetter School and Onida High School until she married Thomas Vincent on August 24, 1948. She had five children: Donald (deceased), Sandy, Gary, Dale and Lila. She moved to Sioux Falls in 1958, where she later married Raymond Thompson, on February 12, 1973.

Dorothy worked at the Stock Yards Café and also tended bar for many years at the Silver Moon Bar before retiring in 1990. She returned to work at the YMCA Café and retired again after ten years. She loved playing Pinochle and putting puzzles together. Dorothy also liked Saturday night bingo. Dorothy was famous for her Sunday dinners, anyone and everyone was welcomed. Over the years, many people have enjoyed her homemade cooking.

Dorothy is survived by four children, Gary (Linda) Vincent, Dale Vincent, Sandy Kerf and Lila Gerry, all of Sioux Falls; eleven grandchildren, Dee Dee, Jessica, Donielle, Jennifer, Christina, Shavaun, Gary, Kyle, Derek, Michelle and Thomas; several great-grandchildren; three siblings, Leon (Beverly) Tennant, Darlene (Clifford) Carter, and Edna Brunmeier; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Mildred Tennant; son, Donald Vincent; sister, Helen Paxton; and brothers-in-law, Mike Brunmeier and Muryl Paxton.

    So sorry for your loss. Dorothy was very nice and had a little spit fire in her. 🙂 I worked with her at the YMCA as well as did my mom/Doris Engel and Dad/Bill Engel. She will be missed! Our condolences go out to you all!
