Ellen A. Carsrud

June 27, 1915 – January 22, 2011

Ellen Carsrud, 95, of Brandon, SD, died Saturday, January 22, 2011 at the Good Samaritan Society Home in Sioux Falls.
Visitation will begin at 2 pm, Wednesday, January 26, with family present at 6:30pm at Heartland Funeral Home of Brandon. Funeral Services will be 1pm, Thursday, January 27, 2011, at the Swedona Covenant Church, rural Brandon with Pastor David Stene officiating. Internment will follow at the church cemetery.
Ellen A.Carlson was born June 27, 1915, in rural Brandon to Carl and Selma (Nordstrom) Carlson. She was raised and educated on their farm until she moved to a relative’s home to attend Washington High School in Sioux Falls where she graduated.
Ellen married Walter Carsrud on November 28, 1937 in Brandon. They moved to California for three years and then back to Brandon where they farmed and she cleaned homes. Two children were born to this union. Ellen later worked part-time at the IGA-Jubilee grocery store in Brandon, as a checkout clerk.
Ellen was a life-long member of the Swedona Covenant Church where she taught Sunday School for many years. She was also a member of the Swedona ladies aid group. Her passions were many but greatest were her grandchildren. She loved to baby-sit them. She also enjoyed gardening flowers, reading, cooking and baking and sewing clothing. Her family has fond memories of her mashed potatoes, ham and bean soup and lemon pie.
Ellen is survived by a daughter, Cheryl (Richard) Erickson, Brandon, SD and one son, LeRoy (Chiko) Carsrud of Canton, SD, 4 grandchildren; Dana Carsrud, Aaron (Glenda) Carsrud, Danielle (Christopher) Bellemore, and William Erickson and 1 great-grandchild; Kristen Carsrud.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Walter, 1 adopted brother; Albin Anderson and 2 sisters; Edna Ellefson and Mildred Kepford.
A memorial has been established to the Swedona Covenant Church.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Good Samaritan Center for all of the wonderful/loving care Ellen received during her stay with them.
