Ernest “Bud” Roy Johnson

Ernest “Bud” R. Johnson 91, Brandon, died Friday, March 31, 2017, at the Sioux Falls VA Medical Center.
Memorial services will be 11:00AM, Tuesday, April 4, 2017, at Heartland Funeral Home, with full military honors. Inurnment will be 2:00PM, Friday, at the Black Hills National Cemetery.
Ernest Roy Johnson was born February 23, 1926, to Roy and Pansy (Rapenberg) Johnson, in Russell MN. He attended school there until the 9th grade. On February, 27, 1945, Bud enlisted in the Navy and served until November 1946. He returned to Eagle Butte where he worked as a truck driver, farmed, and managed the Co-op for several years. Bud also lived in Sioux Falls, Trent, and finally Brandon, SD.
Bud was a man with many hobbies. He enjoyed fishing, reading, watching old western movies, playing cards and working on puzzles. He loved to buy old cars and resell them. He also had a sharp memory and could recall stories from way back; even up until the very end. Bud was a member of the American Legion of Watertown.
Bud will be deeply missed by his six children, Barb Hinzman, Brandon, SD, Randy (Alyce) Johnson, Wellington, TX, Betty (Kreg) Warrick, Rapid City, SD, Rick (Jackie) Johnson, Wellington, TX, Diane (Tom) Gesinger, Ridgeview, SD, and Janelle (Kurt) Kolb, Leola, SD; sixteen grandchildren, thirty five great-grandchildren, and one sister-in-law, Annette Johnson, St. Cloud, MN.
Bud was preceded in death by his parents; a sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and Palmer Braaten; an infant brother; a great-grandson, Wyatt Joseph Gesinger; special aunt and uncle, Elmer and Tillie Johnson; and son-in-law, Jerry Hinzman.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be given to the D.A.V. in Buds memory.
