James M. Buie, 68, Sioux Falls, died Monday, November 17, 2014, at the Dougherty Hospice Home.
Memorial services will be held Thursday, November 20, 2014, at 7:00PM, at Heartland Funeral Home, with family visitation from 5-7pm. Pastor Duane Arneson will officiate. Private family inurnment will take place at Hills of Rest.

James Marshall Buie was born August 13, 1946, in Sioux Falls to Chester Sr. and Margaret (Fallon) Buie. Jim attended school in Sioux Falls and graduated from Washington High School. He married Judy Peterson 8-25-1967. They had two children; Jason and Jamie. James worked various maintenance jobs through the years most recently at Pine Crest Inc. After retiring, he worked for the City of Sioux Falls Parks Dept. until his health required him to finish in 2011.

Jim was an avid hunter & fisherman, loved planting his vegetable garden in the springtime and caring for it throughout the summer. He enjoyed playing pitch, golf, and was a city dart champion in 2007. Jim was a big St. Louis Rams fan also enjoyed watching Jeff Gordon and NASCAR. In the 80’s and early 90’s, Jim and Jason enjoyed go kart racing together around area tracks and even to the Nationals. Jason was the driver and Jim was the motor builder.

Jim’s greatest love was his 4 grandchildren. He always wondered what they were up to and always asked if they were keeping up with their grades.

Jim is survived by two children, Jason (Marcia) Buie, Sioux Falls & Jamie (Mark) Valentien, Brandon; four grandchildren, Kaylee & Talon Buie, Harrisburg and Jessica & Kiara Valentien, Brandon; two siblings, Chester Jr.(Marla) Buie, Sioux Falls & Janice (Doug) Weeg, Litchfield Park, AZ.

The family would like to send special thanks to Dr. Gutnik and associates, Dr. Tolentino, all the staff at Avera Prairie Center & chemotherapy, and the staff at Dougherty Hospice cottage.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.

    We are so sorry to hear of Jim’s passing. We enjoyed playing darts with him and Penny over the years. The most memorable was the trip to Vegas. You will be missed. RIP Jim
