Janice Marie Haas, 85, Sioux Falls, passed away unexpectedly, Friday, December 8, 2017, at Sanford USD Hospital in Sioux Falls.

Visitation will be 5 to 7pm, Tuesday, December 12, 2017, at Heartland Funeral Home, Brandon, with a Memorial Service at 7pm.

Janice Marie Bale was born June 25, 1932, in Sioux Falls to Robert & Verda (Graber) Bale.  She was raised and attended school in Sioux Falls before graduating.  Janice married Stephen Haas on July 16, 1949, in Sioux Falls where they raised their family for the next 68 years.  When her children left the nest, Janice worked for the Minnehaha Co. Auditors’ Office for several years.

Janice was all about her family and getting together for the holidays.  There was a team effort for all of the girls as they prepared the meals together at her home.  A huge tradition was to take the first Friday in December off and the girls would gather at Janice’s home to make Christmas cookies, candies, and other treats for all of their families.

She will be greatly missed by the love of her life and husband, Stephen Haas; her children, Craig Haas, Davenport, IA, Robin (Doug) Brandhagen, and Nancy Lind, both of Sioux Falls, and one son-in-law, Steven Sharpe; Janice’s pride & joy were her 10 grandchildren, Lisa (Mark) McGuire, Patrick (Brooke) Brandhagen, Cory Brandhagen, Jon (Debra) Laughlin, Jason (Cassie) Krueger, Stephen (Kate), Amy (Travis) Meyers, Ian (Nicky) Haas, Hannah Haas, and Aerie Miller.

Deeply missing their great-grandma will be Arin & Jarrett McGuire, Corbin & Brock Krueger, Kimberlie Kluesner, Gavin & Malena Laughlin, Brayden Haas, Callie Brandhagen, Shyla Lottman, Cameron Lind, Chloe and Blake Lind; her brother, Robert Bale; and many nieces, nephews & cousins.

Janice was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Richard Bale and her sister, Donna Thoms; her daughter, Stephany Sharpe; her granddaughter, Jamie Brandhagen; and great-granddaughter, Kirsten Lind.

    Craig, you might recall that we were friends during our grade-school days at Lowell. I was sorry to read about your mother’s passing. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your famile. I remember that both of our father’s served in the Marines, as did I.
