Jeanette Delores Blankenhagen, was born December 18, 1934 in Sanborn, MN, to Alfred and Emma (Hengel) Blankenhagen. She was raised in the Sanborn area and attended and graduated from Sanborn High School. While working in the Mankato area, she met and married Mel Risting in 1957. The couple had four children. The family relocated to Sioux Falls in 1960, where Jeanette took a position in “House Keeping” at Sioux Valley Hospital. She had worked there for over 32 years, when she retired in 2000.
Jeanette was a very determined and strong woman. She worked through many difficult times, without complaint, and demonstrated her strong faith in God quietly. She was very kind to everyone and never had anything bad to say about anyone. Her children and grandchildren were her driving motivation and she loved every moment with them. Whether it was filling them with M-n-M’s and refilling the orange bowl constantly, making a large meal of roast and mashed potatoes for her family, or cheesecake, Jeanette was always in her glory with her family around her. Jeanette loved to play cards, listen to music, dancing, and watching sports. She was also a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Sioux Falls.
Jeanette will be deeply missed by her four children, Debra Roth, Bridgewater, Kathy (Ron) Rick, Brandon, Mike (Bonnie) Risting, Forest Lake, MN, and Vicki Hughes, Arvarda, CO; nine grandchildren, Mike, Brian, Nicki, Sandie, Chad, Michelle, Alexandra, Cory, and Ryan; six great-grandchildren, and two sisters, Dorothy Nachreiner, MN and Ellie DeWitt, MD.
Jeanette was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Emma (Hengel) Blankenhagen and one brother, Don.
I remember when she worked at the hospital, always had a smile on her face. May God bless her memory.
My heartfelt sympathy to my best friend Vicki, Cory, Ryan, and the family of Jeanette. She will be sadly missed. May God, who so loves her, comfort you all during this difficult time of sorrow. Those we love, whom we have lost, live forever within our hearts. May your loving memories bring each family member a smile. Hold on to those memories to ease the coming days. God Bless You All. Warmest Love, Adele xoxo
My deepest sympathy on the dead of Aunt Jan.
