Jeff J. Skalland, 57, Sioux Falls, SD, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 27, 2026, at Ava’s Hospice House in Sioux Falls, surrounded by his family.
A Visitation will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Monday, August 10, 2026, at Heartland Funeral Home, Brandon, SD, with a Memorial Service following at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.
Jeff J. Skalland was born on July 15, 1969, in Sioux Falls, SD, the beloved son of Mark and Lynette (Dede) Skalland. A lifelong resident of Sioux Falls, Jeff graduated from Lincoln High School in 1987. Shortly thereafter, he attended the American Motorcycle Institute in Daytona Beach, FL, where he developed a fondness for calamari and sea bass. Upon completion of his training at AMI, Jeff returned to Sioux Falls and put his mechanical skills to use at Elmen Rental. He then started up his own business, Dakotah Services and Irrigation, a landscaping maintenance service for residential and commercial customers. He later worked at Combined Pool and Spa, and most recently at Ace Hardware. He was always a people person, making life-long friends every place he went.
Jeff, father to Brittney and Braeden, found his greatest joy in the people he loved. He was always able to carry on a conversation about anything and create light and laughter in any situation. He treasured time spent with his family and friends. Some of his happiest moments were spent at the lake, where he enjoyed jet skiing, relaxing around bonfires, and spending time with those closest to him. He had a passion for cars and motorcycles, and loved taking long drives with his friends, especially in the Cadillacs his dad would bring home when he was young. Jeff cherished every moment spent with his friends and family. He also had a special place in his heart for his dogs, Josie and Stella, and his ferret, Sneakers. Jeff embraced every opportunity for adventure and lived life with enthusiasm and a free spirit.
Above all, Jeff cherished his family. He is survived by his daughter, Brittney; son, Braeden; as well as their mother Sandy (Sylliaasen) Skalland; extended family members including uncle, Glenn (Delfina) Skalland; aunt, Cheryl Priesz; and cousins, Victoria and Matthew Skalland and Todd Paetow.
Jeff was preceded in death by his parents, Mark and Lynette Skalland; grandparents, Avis “Gram” and Palmer Skalland and Myrtle “Nan” and Les Dede. In his final days, he was strong in his faith that he would meet them again soon.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the hospice staff at Ava’s House in Sioux Falls, who so diligently cared for him over the past month.
Though Jeff is no longer with us here on Earth, his love, wisdom, and memories will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Fly high, Jeff. I will never forget you.
