Jewel R. Husby, 80, Sioux Falls, died Sunday, June 8, 2014, at the Bethany Nursing Home in Sioux Falls.

Funeral services will begin at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, June 11, 2014, at Grace Lutheran Church, Sioux Falls with Pastor Siri Sorenson officiating. Visitation will begin one hour prior. Inurnment will take place at the Oldham Lutheran Cemetery at a later date.

Jewel Richard Husby was born July 12, 1933, in Volga, SD to Hans and Edith (Dybdahl) Husby. He graduated from Sinai High School in 1951. He continued his education for two years, then enlisted and served in the Marine Corp from 1953 to 1955. He returned and finished his education at SDSU, graduating in 1957.

Jewel married Mylis Scott, June 1, 1957 in Oldham, SD. They moved to Aberdeen, when Jewel worked as Chief of Research and Statistics at the SD Dept. of Labor. In 2001, the couple moved to Sioux Falls to be closer to their family.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mylis; son, Jon, Sioux Falls; daughter, Karla (Dan) Brown, Sioux Falls; two grandchildren, Marshall & Kallie Brown; and one foster grandchild, Hazen Brown; four siblings, Evelyn (George) Casper, Clara City, MN, Donna Lange, Sioux Falls, Joyce Arndt, Coon Rapids, MN, and Clair (Edel) Husby, Arlington; and many nieces and nephews.

Jewel was preceded in death by his parents; four adult siblings, Harold, Roger, Mavis Quam, Lorraine Matson; and one infant sister, Alice.
