Joel Oren Ruud was born June 3, 1985, in Fargo, ND, to Bradley and Kimberly (Harris) Ruud. He graduated from Lutheran High School in Bloomington, MN, and later attended Normandale Community College. While he was attending college, Joel met Juliana (Retter). They met in September 2005, became good friends, and started dating in March 2007. On December 31, 2009, they got engaged and were then married on June 11, 2011. In November 2013, Joel and Juliana joyfully welcomed their first son, Caleb into their family, and then in August 2015, they welcomed their second son, Cohen.
After their marriage, the couple mainly resided in Woodbury, MN near Juliana’s family. Joel worked at various Menards stores for several years and was working at 3M before moving to Brandon in 2019. Joel began working at Henkel Manufacturing as a Liquids Dispenser shortly after their move and eventually elected to work the weekend shift in order to stay home with his two boys.
In his free time, Joel loved to watch movies, watch sports, and play catch or basketball outside with his kids. He also enjoyed getting to introduce the boys to Harry Potter, Star Wars, and some of the Marvel movies while snuggling up on the couch with a snack. Joel loved cooking for his family. His chislic was a favorite of the kids and they liked getting to experiment by helping him make various rice or pasta dishes. Like a true Minnesotan, Joel loved a good hot dish. As a family, Joel enjoyed playing card games and board games, reading books out loud at bedtime, going to carnivals, and eating at food trucks. He also enjoyed grossing the kids out by kissing Juliana in front of them. Joel loved music and family dance parties in the kitchen were a regular occurrence.
Joel will be greatly missed by his wife of just short of 11 years, Juliana; his two sons, Caleb and Cohen; his father, Brad (Denise) Ruud, and their children; his mother, Kim (Dave) Berg, and their children; the Retter and Gallagher families; and all extended family and friends in between.
What can I say Joel was a larger than life person. He made all of our life’s at work better. His humor both verbal and physical was infectious. If you were at work dancing and turned your head you could bet Joel would also be dancing. You just sometimes don’t realize the effect people have on you until their gone. Joel will be missed by us all at Henkel.
