Kathryn Denise Ferdinand
May 29, 1955 ~ November 13, 2015
Kathryn Denise Ferdinand, 60, Canton, SD, went home to her Lord Friday, November 13, 2015 at the Dougherty Hospice Home in Sioux Falls.
Memorial Services will be held in California at a later date.
Kathryn Denise Irish was born May 29, 1955, in San Jose, CA, to Robert and Phila (Cameron) Thomas. She was raised and educated in California. Kathryn married Jeff Ferdinand and the couple had two children. In 2010, Kathryn moved to Canton, SD to be closer to her children and grandchildren. She loved to attend all of their games and activities.
Kathryn was really a mother to everyone and welcomed all of her children’s friends into her home. She was their room-mother, their coach and all-around inspiration to everyone she worked with and brought out the best in them. Kathryn became the first female All-Star coach of a team of ball players that no-one else wanted. The team went on to win the entire season.
Kathryn is survived by her children, Roslynn (Tim) Hilliard and John (Celeste) Ferdinand , both of Canton, SD; three grandchildren, Jacob, Jordan, and Taylyr; and three siblings, twin sister-Karen Carter, Elk Grove, CA, Linda Dowley, Woodland CA, and Jay (Pam) Irish, Livermore, CA.
Kathryn was preceded in death by her parents.
Rest in peace Auntie. Love you so much.
I love you sweet Kathy and I am forever grateful for all your kindness and friendship to me and my girls when they were babies. I treasure the tiny barrettes you gave me over twenty five years ago and I wear in my hair today while I think about you and I love telling stories of how my girls could do anything they wanted when we went to “Aunt Kathy’s” and I wasn’t allowed to say anything even as they jumped on the couch or climbed on your counters while you just laughed and encouraged and filled them with treats! I am grateful for you naming my rescue horse a few weeks ago and I tell everyone about you when they ask how “Whisper” got her name and that it means how God speaks to us. You will forever be in my heart, I am sorry I could not be there by your side but I am happy that you are with God now and have nothing but that beautiful smile. Love, Elizabeth
