Kelly Scott Johnson was born June 10, 1955, in Madison, SD, to Robert and Darlene (Drebing) Johnson. Kelly graduated from Chester High School. He worked in construction, in farming, and as an Owner/Operator of a long-haul tractor-trailer, and traveled all over the United States.
Kelly was a gunsmith and loved making and repairing guns. He was very compassionate about his “politics” and loved to visit on the phone with friends and family. When Kelly made friends, he stayed in touch often.
Kelly is survived by his mother, Darlene Johnson; children, Crystal (John) Himley, April Johnson, and Dylan Johnson; four grandchildren; siblings, Cheryl (Brian) Maher, Jeff Johnson, Jan Johnson, and Kurt (Laura) Johnson; and several nieces and nephews.
Kelly was preceded in death by his father, Robert C Johnson.
Needless to say this took me by total surprise. Kelly and I had talked on the phone so much for the past year, almost to a point of it being every day until the last three months or so. I wondered what had happened when he stopped calling all of a sudden and I couldn’t get any answers to my text messages. He gave me a lot of good memories as we traveled down memory lane as I lived in Colton, SD, when I was born and he was from Chester. Oh what conversations we had! Rest in peace Kelly. You will be missed dearly. My condolences and prayers to his entire family.
