Laura Anne Merkwan, 45, Geddes, SD, died Thursday, November 30, 2017, at the Palisade Healthcare Community in Garretson, SD, from complications of Multiple Sclerosis.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, December 9, 2017, at 3:00pm, with Visitation from 1:30pm – 3:00pm at Oakwood Park Christian Church (811 S. Gordon Ave.) in Sioux Falls. The family requests that the attendees wear purple or black to the Memorial Service.
Laura Anne Merkwan was born August 15, 1972, in Portland, OR, to Joseph A. Sr. and Mari Ellen (Gates) Merkwan. Laura was a homemaker and enjoyed taking care of her children, which were all raised in Geddes, SD.
Laura had a love for music, especially by the late Tom Petty. She also loved her Pepsi. Laura had a very optimistic attitude and had a way of brightening everyone’s day and making them smile.
Laura will be deeply missed by her four children, Joseph Powell, Curtis Powell, Roberta (Jonathon) Jandera, all of Sioux Falls, and Amy (Alan) Brott, Tyndall, SD; nine grandchildren, Emma, Angelina, Aaron, Colton, Andrew, Michael, Edward, Danielle, and Jordan; mother, Mari Ellen (Keith) Poole, Granite City, IL; two siblings, Dawn Light, Granite City, IL, and Joe Merkwan, Jr., Portland, OR; and several nieces and nephews.
Laura was preceded in death by her father, Joe Merkwan, Sr.
