Leonard Francis Underberg
Leonard Francis Underberg, 85, Sioux Falls, died in his home of natural causes on June 24, 2015.
Family Visitation will be 5-7pm Friday, June 26, 2015, at Heartland Funeral Home in Brandon.
Leonard was born Nov 27, 1929, to Henry (Hank) & Frances (Schulte) Underberg in Lyon Co, IA, and was raised and educated in East Sioux with his six siblings, Ed (Marie) Underberg, Darline (Melvin) Meinerts, Doris (Bob-deceased) Miller, Esther (Larry) Pierson, Ruth (Royal) Kramer & Bernie (Jerry) Waller.
Leonard and Mary Agnes Roemen were engaged on the Cherry Rock Park Bridge, married, and later moved to rural Larchwood, IA, to raise their children on a family farm. He and Mary enjoyed dancing, hunting, fishing and camping. They remained living in the Larchwood area where Leonard farmed, worked for Hall Equipment, Miller Loaders & Grand Labs. They later moved to Garretson, SD, before moving to Sioux Falls, SD, where Leonard still resided. For the past few years, Leonard spent his spare time making diamond willow walking sticks and other various wall hangings for his family.
Grateful for having shared his life are his children, Norb (Cyndi) Underberg, Sioux Falls, Myron (Joyce) Underberg, Fallon, MT, Carol (Marvin) Stoterau, Sioux Falls, Linda (Robert) Proffitt, Larchwood, IA, Mark (Donna) Underberg, Glendive, MT, Bruce (Jennifer) Underberg, Rock Valley, IA.; 13 grandchildren, Chris, Nick, Kenneth, Mike, Brian, Kevin, Robin, Brandy, Brittany, Logan, Danielle, and Kayla; 23 great grandchildren, Jonathon, Kaleb, Travis, Cloey, Nicole, Shaela, Lorli, Hayden, Justin, Bryce, Isaac, Jessica, Weston, Roth, Ryan, Braxton, Janessa, Jaley, Jace, Jaiden, Joselyn, Kyler, and Kohen; & many nieces & nephews.
Leonard was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Agnes (Roemen) Underberg; his parents, Henry (Hank) & Frances Underberg; his wife’s parents, John & Nettie Roemen; and one grandson, T.J. Underberg.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Sanford Hospice in Leonard’s name.
To the Family of Leonard Francis Underbert. I am very sorry to hear about the loss of your loved one, Leonard. May the God of comfort heal your heart.
