Lloyd Eugene Kucker was born on October 11, 1922, to Guy Earl and Rose Ann (Springer) Kucker in Troy, SD. He grew up in Troy, where he attended rural grade school and graduated from high school at Waverly, SD. Lloyd then worked at an aircraft factory in Kansas City before entering the Navy on December 9, 1942. His military service aboard the USS Wake Island in WWII was an interesting discussion point with Lloyd as he provided many interesting stories of his years in the Navy as a Seaman First Class. He returned to South Dakota on January 9, 1946, where he was married to Bernice Della Larson on February 2, 1946, in Hayti, SD. Lloyd worked for 40 years for Northwestern Bell Telephone. He worked in Watertown and Sioux Falls until 1952, when they moved to Mitchell. They were married for 68 years until Bernice passed on January 10, 2015.
Lloyd was a loving husband and father who loved to be the master of many talents, which he used to help build their new home in Mitchell in 1955. His ability to be an overall handyman made him a very popular helper for friends and relatives. There was always a project that Lloyd would be involved in. He belonged to First Lutheran Church, American Legion Post 18 and Post 2750 in Mitchell, where he was an active member in many roles.
Lloyd was the youngest of 19 brothers and sisters. He was the last remaining sibling. He is survived by his two sons, LaMont (Sheryl) Kucker, Brandon, SD, and Neil (Rachel) Kucker, Lakeville, MN; one daughter, Carol (Larry) Mahoney, Springfield, MO; six grandchildren, Lori (Eric) Foster, Chad (Tina) Kucker, Ryan (Staci) Kucker, Rebecca (Brandt) Becker, Sarah Kucker and Meredith Kucker; eleven great-grandchildren, Emma Rose, Evan, Celia, Garrett, Mariska, Ainslie, Lucia, Bryce, Paige, Kate and Brooks; and three sisters-in-law, Elaine Corey, Bryant, SD, Charlotte Larson, Hayti, SD and Pat Larson, Hayti, SD.
He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, all siblings and their spouses, and many nieces and nephews.
