Lucille Irene Rosenwald
September 8, 1921~ November 17, 2014
Lucille Irene Rosenwald, 93, passed away November 17, 2014 at her home.
Memorial services will be Friday, November 21, 2014, 10:30AM, at Heartland Funeral Home in Brandon, SD.
Lucy was born to parents Trygve and Florence (Dougherty) Angell on September 8, 1921 in Waubay, South Dakota. She grew up in Sioux Falls, graduating from Washington High School in 1939. On August 22, 1943 she married Rodger Rosenwald at East Side Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls. He passed away March 15, 1994. They had two children, Susan and Steven.
Lucy and Rodger enjoyed bowling, golf, square dancing, and bridge with their many good friends. They lived in Sioux Falls their entire lives with the exception of Rodger’s WWII flight training in Georgia where he learned to pilot his plane, the “Lucky Lucy”.
Lucy loved and supported her family unconditionally, and also had a great love for animals, especially her dogs.
She is survived by her daughter, Susan (David) Greenlee, Garretson, SD, her son, Steven (Julae) Rosenwald, Newark, DE; four grandchildren, Katya and Laura Jenson and Jason and Heather Rosenwald; five great-grandchildren; and her sister-in-law, Shirley Gray, Brandon.
Lucy was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother Robert.
The family is grateful to her caregivers Glenda and TR, terrific neighbors, the Daybreak program at Center for Active Generations, and Sanford hospice for helping her and her beloved dachshund Coco to remain together in the home she and Rodger built in 1960.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in her name to a local animal rescue organization.
My deepest sympathies to Grandma Lucy’s entire family. You are all in my thoughts and prayers. Thank you all, especially Heather for allowing Grandma Lucy to be a part of my life. Over the years I have truly enjoyed listening to her numerous stories, and she had some pretty good jokes too. The one thing that I will always remember about Lucy is the love that she had for her daschunds.
She was a wonderful person, and I am so glad that I was able to know her.
RIP Grandma Lucy.
Love: Michelle
Bye Mom. I love you, too.
