Margo Celene Wickstrom

Celene Wickstrom, 80, Brandon, died Monday, April 3, 2017, at Bethany Home in Brandon.

Memorial services will be 5pm, Saturday, April 8, 2017, at Heartland Funeral Home, with visitation beginning at 4pm. Inurnment will follow in the Brooklyn Evangelical Free Cemetery near Beresford, SD.

Margo Celene Bernard was born May 5, 1936, in Sioux City, IA, to Clifford and Margaret (Hendrix) Bernard. She grew up on a farm east of Vermillion and graduated from Elk Point High School in 1954. Celene married John A. Wickstrom on October 3, 1954, in Elk Point. The couple farmed near Beresford before they moved to Sioux Falls in 1966 where they raised their three children; Bruce, Daniel, and Nils.

In 1981, Celene earned a Bachelor’s degree in Art from Augustana Collage. She loved to draw and paint, was an avid reader of many novels and the Harry Potter series, and enjoyed going to movies. Celene spent many hours gardening “roses” and cuddling her cat, Tess. She also was a member of Hilltop United Methodist Church and participated in the Shawl Ministry.

Celene will be deeply missed by her children, Daniel (Annette), Cary, N.C., and Nils (Joy), Brandon, SD; three granddaughters, Arissa, Amber, and Lacy Wickstrom.

Celene was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two children: infant daughter, Dina and son, Bruce; and one sister, Sally Jean Bernard.

All are thankful for sharing Celene’s life and will cherish her memory. A kind and loving soul has entered Heaven. A special thanks to the caretakers at Bethany Home, Brandon, and her special friends from her drawing group.

In lieu of flowers, Memorials can be directed to the Humane Society in her honor.
