Marian L. Swenson, 78, Brandon, died Wednesday, May 20, 2015, at her home after a long illness.
Memorial services will be held 10:30AM, Monday, May 25, 2015, at Risen Savior Catholic Church in Brandon, SD. Visitation will be 2 hours prior at Risen Savior.
Marian Lucille Bauer was born January 25, 1937, to Lambert and Mary (Fink) Bauer and grew up on a farm near Britton, SD, with seven other brothers and sisters. She was united in marriage on October 11, 1956, to Zane Swenson Sr. in Lawton, OK. Marian was a wonderful mother and wife. She was always happy, even though the past twenty-eight years she had many health problems. She loved her family, grandkids and great-grandkids. Holidays at her house were amazing; everyone had so much fun. Marian loved rummage sales, and selling the treasures on Ebay. But her biggest hobby was collecting cookie jars. When the couple retired, Marian had over 900 cookie jars with lots of other collectibles. She was appreciative of the Brandon Community voting her and Zane Sr. as the first Brandon Couple of the Year in 2000. She loved the fact that former governor Bill Janklow presented her and Zane Sr. with the award, gave her a kiss, and shared his ‘50’s collection of music. She loved feeding her birds and bird watching. In her later years, she enjoyed watching Pawn Stars and American Pickers on TV. She enjoyed riding in a golf cart and watching her son and grandchildren play golf. She also had a deep love for animals including her dogs, Brutus and Rascal. Marian was so loved by her family. Her memory will never die and she will be in our hearts forever.
Marian is survived by her husband of 58 years, Zane Swenson Sr.; three children, Theresa (Doug) Otten, Valley Springs, Jeff Swenson, Valley Springs, and Zane Jr. (Jennifer) Swenson, Brandon; eight grandchildren; Jeremy (Michele) Scadden, Valley Springs, Nicole (Eric) Swanson, Valley Springs, Shane (Brianna) Scadden, Valley Springs, Jeffrey Swenson, Jonathan Swenson, Zane W. Swenson, Austin Swenson, and Katie Swenson; five great-grandchildren, Shyanne Johnson, Savannah Swanson, Chloe Scadden, Jonathan D. Swenson, and Layton Swenson; three siblings, Lambert Bauer, Webster, Sally Osiecki, Hartford, and Barb Vander Poel, Luverne, MN.
Marian was preceded in death by her parents, Lambert and Mary (Fink) Bauer; brothers, Edward Bauer and Vernon Bauer; and sisters, Betty Cunningham and Bernie Sterud.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Humane Society.
