Marlys Dawn Rose was born June 15, 1936, in Watertown, SD to Viola and William Rose. After moving to Sioux Falls, Marly graduated from Washington High School in 1954. Marlys married Richard Hartsook and had one daughter, Laura and later married Robert Riddle. They had one daughter Christina Riddle, and two step children, Michael and Sheryl. Marlys and Bob celebrated 50 years of marriage April 1, 2016, before Bob’s passing April 5, 2016. Marlys held many jobs including a nursing assistant, executive assistant for an insurance company, security at the airport, plus she was widely known for her 18 year career in Avon holding three territories.
Marly loved Elvis, ice cream, shopping, movies and animals. She always had more than one cat and dog plus horses. She enjoyed staying tan year-round, reading and thriller movies. Marlys could barely wait until spring to see her beloved Robins. In the summer months, she spent nearly all her free time at her summer home, Lake Brant. Marlys lived for the time she spent with her granddaughter, Amber, and was very close to Amber and Tina. The three of them would always find fun in everything and laughed a lot. Marly and Bob wintered in Harlingen, TX, for a few years before Bob became ill.
Marlys is survived by two daughters, Laura (Dale) Pederson, Ardmore, AL, and Christina Riddle, Sioux Falls; stepson, Michael (Marsha) Peterson, Sioux Falls, and stepdaughter, Sheryl Peters, Tuscon, AZ; and granddaughter, Amber (Nathaniel) Bloodgood, Sioux Falls.
Marlys was preceded in death by her husband, Bob; one brother, Bill; and her parents.
My deepest sympathy to Tina and Amber and all of the Family. Marlys was considered part of our Family too. Marlys and Mom (Wanda) were best Friends, even sharing the same Birthday and being buried Oct 6th and Oct 7th on different years..I’m sure they are together again in Heaven laughing and telling their stories together again. We will always remember her and prayers for your Family.
I can’t make it today, but I wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed visiting with Marlys at the nursing home. She had so many stories to tell. And she had a lot of spunk! She talked about many of her pets and how much her daughter loved her horse. I liked how she always liked to have her earrings on. It was an honor to bring communion to her. My thoughts and prayers are with you
