Merle Richard Hinton

Merle R. Hinton, age 63, Sioux Falls, passed away Sunday, June 18, 2023, at his home in Sioux Falls, SD, surrounded by his family, including his loyal dog, Bella.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Clarion Church of Christ, in Clarion, Iowa, on Saturday, June 24, 2023, at 10:30 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the family c/o Merle Hinton, 2904 W 33rd Street, Sioux Falls, SD 57105. The contributions will support Avera @ Home Hospice Care.
Merle Richard Hinton was born on December 14, 1959, in Clarion, IA, to R. J. (Jerry) and Jeannine (Nelson) Hinton. He graduated from Clarion High School in 1978. He attended the University of Northern Iowa. In 1982, Merle was united in marriage to Janell Fish. In 2014, he was married to Jody Monroe.
Merle was a natural-born salesperson. He could strike up a conversation with anyone and find something in common to talk about. Over the years, he earned trips to Alaska and Europe. He was the number one sales rep in 2013, for the company he worked for. He was a long-time premium seller on eBay. Merle was an enthusiastic vintage toy collector/seller. His expertise was 1960’s action figures. His personal collection includes some of his own boyhood toys.
Merle was blessed with a beautiful singing voice. He enjoyed participating in the high school chorus and singing for weddings and funerals.
Merle will be missed by his wife, Jody Monroe, Sioux Falls, SD, his step-son, Justin (Abby Wagenaar) Cole; step-daughter, Angela (Cole) Vera; two step-grandsons and four step-granddaughters; his brother-in-law, Gordon Kenyon; brothers, Mark (Connie) Hinton, Clarion, IA, and Mike (Elaine) Hinton, Lady Lake, FL; and two nieces, and five nephews.
Merle was preceded in death by his wife, Janell; his parents, and his nephew; Nathaniel Hinton.
