Glen Clark, 84, Brandon, died Thursday, December 04, 2014, at his home.

Visitation with be Monday afternoon with family present from 5-7pm, December 8, 2014, at Heartland Funeral Home, with full Military Honors at 7pm. Private inurnment will take place at the White Fairview Cemetery at a later date.

Glen Lloyd Clark was born September 6, 1930, in Pipestone, MN to Lloyd and Garna (Neuman) Clark. He attended country school in the Flandreau area and then enlisted in the US Air Force. He served four years and then returned to Sioux Falls and entered the Air Guard. On April 12, 1958, Glen married Vergene Bullis in Flandreau, SD. The couple started farming in Moody County until 1971. In 1972, Glen and Vergene purchased a farm near White, SD in Brookings Co. where Glen raised cattle and grain until his retirement in 2004. The couple then relocated in Brandon. Unfortunately, Vergene died in 2013. Glen continued to reside in Brandon until his death.

Glen loved his grandsons and spending time with them was a treat for him. His off the cuff comments and opinions kept everyone guessing what he would say next. Glen also loved to read extensively, visiting with his coffee buddies and playing cards.

Glen will be deeply missed by his children, David, of Brookings, and Diane (Doug) Clark, of Chanhassen, MN; three grandsons, Jacob, Justin and Joshua; two sisters, Mary Lou Kern, Sioux Falls, and Irene (Lawrence) Barthel, Kalispell, MT; many nieces and nephews.

Glen was preceded in death by his wife, Vergene; his son, Paul; his parents, and one brother, Roy.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests the people take time to hug their loved ones.

Judy Ann Buie

Judy Ann Buie, 68, Sioux Falls, died Wednesday, December 3, 2014, at the Dougherty Hospice Cottage in Sioux Falls.

Memorial services will be 10:00am, Saturday, December 6, 2014, at Heartland Funeral Home, with family visitation/fellowship afterwards.

Judy Ann Peterson was born August 3, 1946, in Hendricks, MN, to Keith and Lucille Peterson. She graduated from Washington High School in 1964. Judy married James Buie on August 25, 1967. They had 2 children Jason and Jamie. Judy worked various office jobs throughout the years including John Morrell, part-time at Kmart, and for the last 15 years, at KTTW TV – FOX, right up until the time of her death. Judy enjoyed shopping, playing cards of any type and playing BUNCO with the gals.

Judy is survived by her children, Jason (Marcia) Buie, Sioux Falls and Jamie (Mark) Valentien, Brandon; four grandchildren, Kaylee and Talon Buie, Harrisburg and Jessica and Kiara Valentien, Brandon; six nieces & nephews; many cousins; two aunts, Veronica Quissell and Mardell Barenklau; and her very special feline, Simba.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Jerry.

The family would like to thank Dr. Sandra Smith, Dr. Mark Huber, and the staff at the Avera Prairie Center and Chemotherapy.

James Marshall Buie

James M. Buie, 68, Sioux Falls, died Monday, November 17, 2014, at the Dougherty Hospice Home.
Memorial services will be held Thursday, November 20, 2014, at 7:00PM, at Heartland Funeral Home, with family visitation from 5-7pm. Pastor Duane Arneson will officiate. Private family inurnment will take place at Hills of Rest.

James Marshall Buie was born August 13, 1946, in Sioux Falls to Chester Sr. and Margaret (Fallon) Buie. Jim attended school in Sioux Falls and graduated from Washington High School. He married Judy Peterson 8-25-1967. They had two children; Jason and Jamie. James worked various maintenance jobs through the years most recently at Pine Crest Inc. After retiring, he worked for the City of Sioux Falls Parks Dept. until his health required him to finish in 2011.

Jim was an avid hunter & fisherman, loved planting his vegetable garden in the springtime and caring for it throughout the summer. He enjoyed playing pitch, golf, and was a city dart champion in 2007. Jim was a big St. Louis Rams fan also enjoyed watching Jeff Gordon and NASCAR. In the 80’s and early 90’s, Jim and Jason enjoyed go kart racing together around area tracks and even to the Nationals. Jason was the driver and Jim was the motor builder.

Jim’s greatest love was his 4 grandchildren. He always wondered what they were up to and always asked if they were keeping up with their grades.

Jim is survived by two children, Jason (Marcia) Buie, Sioux Falls & Jamie (Mark) Valentien, Brandon; four grandchildren, Kaylee & Talon Buie, Harrisburg and Jessica & Kiara Valentien, Brandon; two siblings, Chester Jr.(Marla) Buie, Sioux Falls & Janice (Doug) Weeg, Litchfield Park, AZ.

The family would like to send special thanks to Dr. Gutnik and associates, Dr. Tolentino, all the staff at Avera Prairie Center & chemotherapy, and the staff at Dougherty Hospice cottage.

Lucille Irene Rosenwald

Lucille Irene Rosenwald, 93, passed away November 17, 2014 at her home.

Memorial services will be Friday, November 21, 2014, 10:30AM, at Heartland Funeral Home in Brandon, SD.
Lucy was born to parents Trygve and Florence (Dougherty) Angell on September 8, 1921 in Waubay, South Dakota. She grew up in Sioux Falls, graduating from Washington High School in 1939. On August 22, 1943 she married Rodger Rosenwald at East Side Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls. He passed away March 15, 1994. They had two children, Susan and Steven.

Lucy and Rodger enjoyed bowling, golf, square dancing, and bridge with their many good friends. They lived in Sioux Falls their entire lives with the exception of Rodger’s WWII flight training in Georgia where he learned to pilot his plane, the “Lucky Lucy”.
Lucy loved and supported her family unconditionally, and also had a great love for animals, especially her dogs.

She is survived by her daughter, Susan (David) Greenlee, Garretson, SD, her son, Steven (Julae) Rosenwald, Newark, DE; four grandchildren, Katya and Laura Jenson and Jason and Heather Rosenwald; five great-grandchildren; and her sister-in-law, Shirley Gray, Brandon.

Lucy was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother Robert.

The family is grateful to her caregivers Glenda and TR, terrific neighbors, the Daybreak program at Center for Active Generations, and Sanford hospice for helping her and her beloved dachshund Coco to remain together in the home she and Rodger built in 1960.

Brian Lynn Thomas

Visitation will be Wednesday, October 29, 2014, from 5-7pm, at Heartland Funeral Home, Brandon, SD, with family present. A short service will begin at 7pm. A graveside service will be held at 11am, Saturday, November 1, at Jeffers Cemetery, Jeffers, MN.

Brian Lynn Thomas was born August 21, 1966, in Mankato, MN, to James and Sandra (Wallace) Thomas. He was raised first in the Pipestone area and then he move to and graduated from Jeffers High School in Jeffers, MN. He  attended Pipestone VoTech for automotive. On April 27, 1991, Brian married Kay Schelhaas in Pipestone and the couple moved to the Sioux Falls area where they reaised their two sons, Darrick and Zach. Brian worked in several areas of the auto field. He was a mechanic, sold cars, and even was a repo agent for a while. Unfortunately, health issues forced him to leave his job and work only part-time.
Brian enjoyed cars, Harleys, and hanging out with his sons, friends and family. He loved holidays and reunions just visiting and being together. Whether it was teasing his “little” brothers, or spending time with his nieces and nephews, riding motorcycles with Darrick, or doing car stuff with Zach, he loved his family. He cherished a bike trip to Sturgis with his friend, Lanny O’Neal. Brian also loved to go “picking” at various thrift stores, consignment shops, and antique stores looking for treasures.
Sadly, Brian, 48, died Friday, October 24, 2014, at his home.
Brian will be deeply missed by his two sons, Darrick (Danielle) Thomas and Zach Thomas, Brandon; his parents, James and Sandra Thomas, Windom, MN, two brothers, Brad (Tami) Thomas, Cokato, MN and Ben (Amber) Thomas, Jeffers, MN; six nieces and nephews, Katerina, Bianca, Triton, Gavin, Brienna, and Ryan; special friend, Millie Lovejoy; and many cousins, aunts and uncles.
Brian was preceded in death by two infant brothers, James Fay and Ronald Lee.
A memorial has been established in Brian’s honor.

Dwight Lee Duimstra

Dwight Lee Duimstra was born November 28, 1943, in San Antonio, TX, to Dr. Fred and Elma Lee (Ray) Duimstra. The family moved to Sioux Falls in Dwight’s early childhood years where he attended school and graduated from Washington High School. Dwight worked for the Sioux Falls Police Dept. for eight years before he quit to run for Sioux Falls City Council. In 1983, he purchased the Sportsman’s Bar and operated it for 23 years. He then opened Mr. D’s in 2007 and it was his favorite place to be .He loved his business and his customers.
Dwight had many passions but his most favorite was his family; his six children and his seven grandchildren. He also loved to to scuba dive and was a certified instructor. Hand guns and target shooting also was a way he loved to pass his time. Anyone who knew Dwight knew that loved cars and women…fast and hot! Dwight also loved animals. His collection of ducks, rabbits, cockatoo, dogs, and turtles in his bathtub were a testament for his love.
Sadly, Dwight, 70, died Friday, October 24, 2014, at home following a lengthy battle with cancer.
Dwight is survived by his six children, Paul Duimstra, Christina Petterson, Ann Reurink, Sindy Metha, Shelleen Weeks, and Cody Duimstra; and seven grandchildren; his pets and a whole host of friends.
Dwight was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial has been established in Dwight’s memory.

Virgil Eugene Rogers

February 26, 1939 ~ October 3, 2014

Virgil E. Rogers, 75, Garretson, died Friday, October 3, 2014, at the Avera Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls.
Memorial Services will begin at 10:00am, Wednesday, October 8, 2014, at Heartland Funeral Home, Brandon. Inurnment will follow at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery in Huron.
Virgil Eugene Rogers was born February 26, 1939, in Burke, SD, to Doris Rogers. He attended school in Pierre, through the eighth grade when he left to start working full time on the farm for his uncle. Virgil basically farmed until 1996, when his health no longer allowed him to continue. Also in July 1996, Virgil married Marti Kron in Onida. The couple resided in Pierre until they moved to Sioux Falls in 2000. The couple worked side by side for Service Master cleaning commercial buildings.
Virgil was a man of simplicity. He worked hard and loved to read his Bible. It was his favorite pastime. He especially enjoyed having Bible study and lunch at his home. He also really loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Any time he could be involved in their lives, he found joy. Whether it was being reminded to fill up his coffee “to the rim” or chasing someone down the hall with a face full of shave cream, asking for a “Kiss and a moochie”, Virgil’s teasing and his contagious laughter will be somethings everyone will remember. You couldn’t help but laugh along with him when you heard it.
Virgil is survived by his wife, Marti; two daughters, Bonnie (Jim) Quinn, Rapid City, Darcy (Darin Prins) Rogers, Hardwick, MN; two stepdaughters, Tammy (Larry) Lange, Grandforks, ND, Teresa Peterson, Newfolden, MN; eleven grandchildren, Mandi, LaRae, Jacob, Kassandra, Megan, Janelle, Ethan, Sarah, Levi, Travis, and Kyle; sixteen great-grandchildren, Kyliauna, Haileigh, Carson, Kaydence, Urijah, Kenny, Shayleene, Shauna, Brieanna, Dallen, Keenan, Roirey, Emmaly, Samatha, Kaylee, and Zack; two siblings, Dwayne Mutucha, Burke, and Dorothy Kirney, Wagner; and two sister-in-laws, Mary Mutucha, Burke and Gladys Smith, Idaho.
Virgil was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Lyle Smith, George Mutucha; one daughter, Brenda Hoffman, and “Grandpa J” Rogers.

Nancy Anne Waxdahl

Waxdahl, Nancy_ovalNancy A. (Valentine) Waxdahl, 72, Sioux Falls, died at Sanford USD Medical Center, on Wednesday, September 3, 2014, in Sioux Falls.

Visitation will be 1-3pm, Sunday, September 7, 2014, at Heartland Funeral Home, with family present. Funeral services will begin at 11:00am, Monday, September 8, at Wesley United Methodist Church, Sioux Falls, with Pastor Laura Borman officiating. Interment will follow at the Egan Cemetery.

Nancy was born to John and Margarite (Billam) Valentine on March 3, 1942, in Flandreau and went to school in Egan, graduating in 1960. On March 11, 1961, she married Robert Waxdahl in Pipestone, MN, and made their home on a farm 4 miles south of Flandreau. After moving to Sioux Falls, Nancy was a foster parent for 20 years for Lutheran Social Services. She did many things during her life, but the highlight was working for the State Democratic Party and individual Democrats from the state. (Tom Daschle, Tim Johnson, Stephanie Herseth and others) She also worked other jobs like the Census Bureau, Olan Mills, ERA Real Estate.

Nancy’s family was also very important to her and she was very active in their lives while they were growing up. She was a Girl Scout Leader, a Boy Scout Den Mother, and a Lifetime PTA member and a Sunday School Teacher. Nancy also participated with Women’s Circle, and organizing Lay Leaders and other church activities.

Nancy is survived by her husband of 53 years, Bob; four children, Carolyn, Scott and Brenda (Doug Kolhoff) Waxdahl and Marcia Leichtman, all of Sioux Falls; five grandchildren, Christopher, Nicole, and Jeff Kolhoff, and Phillip and Alex Leichtman; six siblings; Connie Wendell, Flandreau, John (Barb) Valentine, Chandler, AZ, George Valentine, Sioux Falls, Carol (Gordon) Olson, Minnetonka, MN, Linda Valentine, Brooklyn Park, MN, and Jim (Jeanette) Valentine, New Hope, MN; and many nieces and nephews.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents.

John Russell Peterson

John R. Peterson, 72, Sioux Falls, died Wednesday, September 3, 2014, at Bethany Home in Sioux Falls.

Visitation will be 4-6:30 p.m., Sunday, September 7, 2014, at Heartland Funeral Home, with a prayer service at 6 p.m. Funeral services will begin at 10:30 a.m., Monday, September 8, also at Heartland, with Pastor Lee Green officiating.

John Russell Peterson was born January 14, 1942 to Russell and Dorothea (Storsteen) Peterson in Veblen, SD. He attended school there through the fourth grade when his family moved to Sisseton to run the supper club and bowling alley. John was a true scholar. He graduated from Sisseton High and attended Northern State College. After graduation he took a position with the Social Security Administration. John was a hopeless romantic by proposing to the love his life, Cheryl on the 9th hole of the Sisseton golf course and hiding the engagement ring in a vocabulary book he had hollowed out. They married on July 5, 1969. John worked for over 25 years for the Social Security Administration. After his retirement, he sold long term care insurance for another 20 years.

John was very enthusiastic about everything he did. He loved fishing, hunting, gardening, and planting rocks. But most of all, he loved his family and spoiling his grandchildren. Golf was John’s passion. He started playing when he was very young and would hitch-hike to the course in Sisseton to play and won many tournaments and awards. John was a very kind and generous person who would help anyone, any way he could. His fun-loving sense of humor was seen by everyone who knew him.

John is survived by his wife of 45 years, Cheryl; two children, Heidi Peterson, Sioux Falls, and Ben (April) Peterson, Brandon; three grandchildren, Hunter, Jacob, and Harper Peterson; and two sisters; Jean (Dean) Banek, Sioux Falls, and Joan Neyra, Greenville, TX.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Dorothea.

In lieu of flower, memorials can be made to the Brandon Valley Booster Club in John’s memory.

Victor E. Wiebe

Victor E. Wiebe, 63, Rowena, died Sunday, August 31, 2014, at the Good Samaritan Village, Sioux Falls, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Family visitation will be 4-6 PM, Friday, September 5, 2014, at Heartland Funeral Home, with a short service at 5:30 PM, followed by Full Military Honors. A reception will follow at the VFW in Brandon.

Victor E. Wiebe was born September 12, 1950, to Ozzie and Joyce (Hammer) Wiebe in Sioux Falls. He was raised and educated in the Canton area, on the family farm with his six siblings. Vic was known to be a prankster and with his brothers, many stories are to be told of their antics. In 1968, Vic joined up with the US Navy and went to Viet Nam for 6 tours. Upon his return, he traveled the west coast and Arizona for some time before returning to South Dakota. Vic worked various jobs including John Morrell, Frisbee’s Plumbing and Heating, and the VA Hospital in Sioux Falls before his retirement in 2000. On June 30, 1984, Vic married his wife of 30 years, Dawn Webb, in Madison, SD. The couple had one daughter, Leah.

Vic was a free spirited kind of a person with an adventurous nature as those that knew his best, can attest to. From early on, he loved his Harleys and belonged to a motorcycle club. They were a second family to him and he truly loved to hang out, ride poker runs or just party with his friends. His other love was his family and a special treat was taking Leah for rides on the bike or watching his grand-daughter, Ella. She would entertain him as she just meandered around the room or shared her M-n-M’s with him.

Vic will be deeply missed by his wife, Dawn, his three children, Jon and Bill Wiebe, Goldsboro, NC and Leah (Jacob) Brennan, Sioux Falls; three grandchildren, Kayla & Andrew Wiebe, and Ella Brennan; four siblings, Duane (Mary) Wiebe, Canton, Gail (Mark) Jones, Burnsville, MN, Darla (Jim) Vennard, Beresford, and Darin (Joy) Wiebe, Kewaskum, WI; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
