Roger Ray Rose

Roger R. Rose, 53, Huron, SD, peacefully succumbed to his battle with cancer on October 3, 2023, at his home. 

A Celebration of Life will be held at 5:30pm, Friday, October 13, 2023, at Lankota in Huron, SD. A private ceremony will be held later at the South Dakota State Veterans Cemetery in Sioux Falls, SD, with Military Honors.

Roger Ray Rose was born on November 20, 1969, to Francis and Mavis (Steiner) Rose in Redfield, SD. He was the youngest of six children. Roger graduated from Redfield High School in 1988. He enlisted as a Junior in High School, in the SD Army National Guard. He was deployed to Iraq from 2003 to 2005. After serving our Country for 24 years, Roger retired in March 2011. Roger worked at Lankota in Huron from 2010 until his passing. He was very proud of his work at Lankota as the Warehouse Foreman. He considered everyone there as family.

Roger was a social butterfly making friends everywhere he went. He was an avid sports fan cheering on the “Who Dat Nation”, the New Orleans Saints. He lived on the Golf Course every chance he got as well. He also enjoyed hunting and was part of the Veteran’s Hunt in 2020. Dennis Daugaard, Governor of the State of South Dakota, proclaimed March 5, 2011, as Sergeant Roger Ray Rose Day. His greatest joy was being a grandfather.

Roger was united in marriage to Tina Cunningham on April 4, 1992. To this union, they had two children. A daughter, Desirae, and a son, Hunter. Roger later was united in marriage to Becky Vander Plaats on September 19, 2023, until his passing a short fourteen days later.

Roger will be deeply missed by his wife, children, grandchildren, siblings, work family, extended family, and friends.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Becky Rose; children, Desirae (Max) Hartman, and Hunter Rose; siblings, Gerri (Bob) Schutte, Wayne (Deb) Rose, Jeff (Nancy) Rose, brother-in-law, Phillip Rogers; and five grandchildren, George and Otto Hartman, Oakley, Bentley, and Jersey Rose.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Mavis Rose; and siblings, Maxine Rogers, and Lonnie Rose.
