Russ J. Roth, 63, Valley Springs, died Monday, February 7, 2017, at the Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls.

Visitation will be 2-4pm, Sunday, February 12, 2017, at Heartland Funeral Home, Brandon. Funeral Services will be 10:30am, Monday, February 13, also at Heartland. Interment will follow at Beaver Valley Lutheran South Cemetery.

Russell James Roth was born January 30, 1954, in Sioux Falls, to Deward and Rosemary (Volk) Roth. He attended school in Sioux Falls and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1972. Russ went to work immediately in the auto restoration business. He worked in several different businesses doing everything from painting to rebuilding from the ground up. He was very mechanical and had a photographic mind. Russ could look at a set of specs or blueprints and go back to work on a car and remember everything. Russ lived in Corson, where he ran his own business for a while before he moved out to his home in Valley Springs. Unfortunately, his health took a turn for the worse and he was unable to continue on with the hard work the car business required.

Russ loved to have fun. Camping, Corvette shows, poker runs and Harley rides were main attractions in his life. During a Fourth of July bonfire and party at his home 12 years ago, Russ met Carol Egert. Sparks ignited, along with the fireworks, and the couple has-been together ever since. Carol and Russ shared their love for dogs and their English bulldog and Pug were pampered beyond control.

Russ will be deeply missed by his love for the last 12 years, Carol Egert; his father, Deward Roth, Brandon; two siblings, Vicki (Daniel) Wells, Littleton, CO, and Scott (Pam) Roth, Baltic; one aunt, Lillian Roth, Hastings, NE, and Wendell (Marilyn) Roth, Sioux City, IA; two very close friends, Gary Wittle, Baltic and Grant Robinson; and many cousins and other friends.

Russ was preceded in death by his mother, Rosemary.

So sorry to hear about Russ’s passing. I graduated with Russ from LHS in 1972. He should have received a letter from me re: our 45th HS Reunion in August. For our 40th reunion, a video was made featuring those who have passed away. Then was shown at the reunion. We will continue to show this at every reunion and add Russ now. It is very respectfully done. I did not know Russ, but sounds like he was quite the person and will be greatly missed. May God Bless & care for you and your Family during this painful time.

I have just now learned of Russ’s passing. I first met Russ in our kindergarten class at Bancroft School in 1959. I then met him again in our Boy Scout troop in 6th grade. We were friends all through junior high and high school. He taught me a lot about cars and we often hung out together. I often visited him and Choni and their beloved dog Lucy out on the acreage near Brandon. I last spoke with him on the phone in 2013 when I was living in Pennsylvania. Having known him since we were 5 years old, my heart is very sad to learn he has passed. I am actually feeling a bit stunned as my mind goes back over all those memories. God Bless you Russ, and your family.
