Scott D. DeKing, 52, Sioux Falls, died peacefully Monday, June 27, 2016, at the Avera McKennan Hospital, following a lengthy battle with diabetes.

Memorial services will be 10:30am, Saturday, July 2, 2016, at Heartland Funeral Home.

Scott Daniel DeKing was born December 26, 1963, in Marshall, MN, to Raymond and Carol (Ricke) DeKing. Despite early health issues and negative prognosis, Scott never gave up. Scott became a line cook at the Fry’n Pan and then moved over to The Cracked Pot for many years. When they closed, he worked at the Burnside Bingo or Burnside Gaming, as a cook in their kitchen.

Scott was a life-long NASCAR fan and cheered the number 24 above all others. If it had to do with Jeff Gordon, Scott could tell you about it. He could be found watching every race, sometimes with his rescued cats or listening to his favorite country music. He liked to help around the house with handy man jobs or working outside even until the very end when his health wouldn’t allow it.

Scott is survived by a daughter, Sally Whiting, Viborg, SD; his parents, Raymond and Carol, Sioux Falls; two siblings, Daniel (Kimberly) DeKing and Michele (Charles) Thompson, Sioux Falls; and numerous loving nieces and nephews.
