Steven Lee Padgett

August 16, 1952 ~ January 13, 2022

Steven L. Padgett, 69, Valley Springs, died Thursday, January 13, 2022, at his home following recent health issues.

Visitation with family present will be 5-7pm, Monday, January 17, 2022, at Heartland Funeral Home, with a Memorial service beginning at 7pm.

Steven Lee Padgett was born August 16, 1952, in Sioux Falls to Stanley Sr. and Ardis (Bakke) Padgett.  He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1970. He married Julie Joneson on April 29, 1972, in Brandon, SD.

Over the course of his life, Steve worked at several different jobs. Early on, he and Julie owned the bowling alley in Brandon. He worked at various locations of Sunshine. He managed Safety Kleen for 13 years. He enjoyed carpentry and used those skills to build garages, do remodeling, and eventually build a few houses.  Steve was also one of the original developers and builders of Helping Hands Assisted Living in Brandon.  Upon his retirement, he worked for Manley Tire and drove for Lyft.

Steve loved baseball and was a diehard New York Yankees fan.  He played baseball and later softball until he hung up his cleats to coach his son and nephew’s baseball team.  One of his proudest moments was playing with the South Dakota Rushmore’s when they won the over 30 World Series. Steve also loved bowling and had several “300” games. Steve enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and his dogs. He collected and drove several Mustangs throughout his life. The most important thing to Steve was his grandchildren and he loved being able to attend their games.

Steve will be deeply missed by his wife, Julie; two children, Sheri (Duane Klay) Padgett, Brandon and Chad (Alisha) Padgett, Brandon; four grandchildren, Mason, Colton, Alyvia, and Avalynn; one brother, Stanley Padgett, Jr.; two nieces and 1 nephew, Dawn Noel, Jake (Janet) Padgett, Jessie (Matt) Finn; and one brother-in-law, Richard (Lisa) Joneson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley L., Sr. and Ardis B. (Bakke) Padgett.
