Thomas “Tom” S. Mulroy, 79, of Valley Springs, died peacefully on Sunday, December 26, 2021, at Palisade Healthcare Center in Garretson, SD.

Thomas “Tom” Stanley Mulroy was born on July 2, 1942, in Sioux Falls, SD, to Walter and Avis (Wernick) Mulroy. On April 13, 1963, Tom married Kathie Ward and they were blessed with two sons; Shane and Troy. The family lived in Gardena, CA, for two years where Tom worked at Appliance Plating. The family moved back to SD and to the Valley Springs area in 1972. Tom worked on the pork cut floor and in maintenance for John Morrell and Co for 41 years until he retired in 2008.
Tom enjoyed hunting, snowmobiling, camping, restoring old cars and attending many classic car shows. In his retirement, he enjoyed living a peaceful life on the acreage, where the couple lived for nearly 49 years, and spending time with family and friends.
Tom will be deeply missed by his wife of 58 years, Kathie; two sons, Shane (Jodi) Mulroy, Valley Springs, and Troy (Patsy) Mulroy, Flandreau; five grandchildren, BreAnna (Alex) Twedt, Kylie (Gage Small Mulroy, Thomas, Seth, and Abby Mulroy; three great-grandchildren, Parker, Nolan and Carter; one brother, Bill (Pat) Mulroy, Beresford, SD, and one sister, Debbie Farr, Hartford, SD; many nieces and nephews; special friends, Willis and Cherry Hunter, Shade and Dorothy Essem, Bruce and Karen Petersen, and Ingrid Hoff; and many furry feline friends.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Walt and Avis Mulroy; two siblings, Janice Westby and Jeannette Spotted-Eagle; three brothers-in-law, Virgil Westby, Chuck Spotted-Eagle, and Gerry Farr.

Tom and i have been friends for more than 65 years – never had a bad day with him – had many many good days with Tom and Kathy , birthday partys to our special car shows at back to the 50s ,cool deadwood nites and sitting around in his garage b/sing about cars to his garage cats – will miss him much – shade

Shane, Troy and mom kathie, so very sorry to see that your dad and husband Tom has passed away, even though I didn’t know Tom all that well I did admire him for being the kind of a guy that he was, liked restoring old model A’s and such and was a good husband and father and I’m sure grandfather as well, RIP Tom Mulroy you and big Rod Smart can visit about the old days when you were working on the old cars together, good old memories, peace be with you all.
Oh Kathie. I had no idea. It’s been too long, but always enjoyed coming to your place and talking with you two. I’m so sorry for your loss Kathie, Troy, Shane and the rest of the family.

Watched online, couldn’t make it to Brandon in time, we live in Salem. Tom was a great friend of my Uncle Jerry’s, so sorry to hear of his passing. Our prayers are with you and your family.
So sorry for your loss, I worked with Tom in pork cut and also was his supervisor in the Main Shop. Tom’s skills were evident in the work he performed. He will be missed
