Verna M. Klumper, 85, Sioux Falls, died Wednesday, December 4, 2019, at Ava’s House in Sioux Falls.
Funeral Services will be 11am, Monday, December 9, 2019, at Heartland Funeral Home, with Visitation beginning at 10am. Inurnment at Mount Pleasant Cemetery will be at a later date.
Verna Mabel Mohns was born in Round Lake, MN on August 25, 1934, to Mabel (Jungjohan) and Herman Mohns. She was baptized at the Lutheran Church in Jackson, MN, by Pastor A.H. Fritschel on June 9, 1935. She was confirmed on June 5, 1949 by Pastor M.W. Lieske at Trinity Lutheran Church of Sioux Valley, MN. Her confirmation verse was Matt. 6:33.
Verna attended elementary school at rural school District 43. She graduated from Sioux Valley High School and attended Worthington Jr. College. Verna was married to Ben Klumper on May 23, 1953, at Evangelical United Brethren Church in Worthington, MN, by Reverend W.H. Weiner. This union was blessed with two children, Allen Bennett and Jeffrey Lee. While Ben served in the US Air Force, they were stationed in Arizona and Texas. They returned to Worthington, MN, where Verna served her family as a homemaker.
Verna was a member of Saint Matthew Lutheran Church in Worthington, MN for 58 years where she was a member of the LWML, the Miriam Circle, as well as teaching Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and helping with release time. Verna’s hobbies included spending time with her family and baking. Following her husband Ben’s death, she moved to Sioux Falls, SD in 2012 and then to Splitrock Apartments in Brandon in 2013. She later moved to Pasque Meadows Apartments in Sioux Falls, SD. Verna resided at Ava House where she was called to her heavenly home on December 4, 2019 at the age of 85 years, 3 months, and 10 days.
Verna will be deeply missed by her son, Jeff (Pat), Sioux Falls; two grandchildren, Jeremy (Bobby), Sioux Falls, and Michael (Chrystal), Montevideo, MN; seven great-grandchildren, Adrianna, Benjamin, Wyatt, Wayde, Alexis, Asher, and Brayden; one brother, Paul (Mary Mohns), Jackson, MN; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and other friends and relatives.
Verna was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ben, and her son, Allen.
I am so blessed to have been a part of Verna’s life for a short time. She was a joy to be around. I remember her love for Jesus, her positive attitude and servant heart. She was a woman to who was a great example to others in so many ways. She loved her family so much and was so giving and kind.
Lord, comfort the family as they grieve her loss. Thank-you for giving her to us that we might see more of who you are through her.
