Jacob M. Aman, Sioux Falls, 88, died of natural causes on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, at his home.

Visitation with family present will be held 5-7pm, Wednesday, May 24, 2023, at Heartland Funeral Home. Funeral Services will begin at 10:30am, Thursday, May 25, 2023, also at Heartland Funeral Home. Jacob Melvin Aman was born on April 28, 1935, to Jacob and Louisa (Barth) Aman on a farm northeast of Hosmer, S.D. He attended the Hosmer area schools and honorably served two years in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955. He was a life member of the V.F.W. and also a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Sioux Falls.

Jake was employed with Boeing Aircraft Co., Seattle, Washington in 1956. While employed at Boeing, he attended Edison Technical School’s blueprint course, where he received a one-year business certification.

In 1960, Jake moved back to South Dakota and bought the family farm, and farmed until 1979, and then moved to Aberdeen, SD. Jake married Rickey Nelson in July of 1961 and they had five children. While employed at Aberdeen Housing, he found his lifetime partner, Linda Peterman, and they began their first of twenty-six wonderful years together. They moved to Sioux Falls, SD, in 1987, where he worked for Corporate Express until 2002, when he became employed with the J.C. Penney Sioux Falls store from 2002, until his retirement in 2014. His hobbies included watching sports and music.

Grateful for sharing his life are four children, Warren Aman, Sioux Falls, Jean Aman, Sioux Falls, Jack (Lilli) Aman, Sioux Falls, Rodney Aman, Sioux Falls; step-daughters, Tracy (Elwin) Detzler, Cottage Grove, MN, and Kristi Babcock, Sioux Falls; ten grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Esther Aman, Aberdeen; and many nieces and nephews.

Jake was preceded in death by the love of his life, Linda; daughter, Wendi Aman; parents, Jacob and Louisa Aman; and siblings, Erwin (Christina) Aman, Julius Aman, Edmund (Eleonora) Aman, Milton (Ermina) Aman, and Lorina Aman.
