February 15, 1950 ~ February 7, 2022

John V. Boehmer, 71, Brandon, died Monday, February 7, 2022, at the Lennox Good Samaritan Nursing Home after recent health issues.

Visitation with the family will begin at 9:30 am, Tuesday, February 15, 2022, at Brandon Assembly of God Church.  A Celebration of Life will begin at 10:30 am followed by burial at the SD State Veteran’s Cemetery at Noon.  A reception will begin at 1 pm at the Brandon VFW.

John Victor Boehmer was born in Parkston, SD, to Joe & Mary (Young) Boehmer on February 15, 1950. John grew up outside of Parkston on the family farm with his four siblings. John graduated from Parkston High School in 1968 and was drafted into the US Army at age 19. John, an Airborne Ranger, proudly served in the Vietnam War from 1970 – 1971, with N Company, 75th Ranger Battalion, of the 173rd Airborne Brigade. John was the recipient of many medals including the Combat Infantryman’s Badge and the Bronze Star with Valor. 

John was united in marriage to Pat Landreth on November 3, 1973. They raised two daughters, Shawna Boehmer and Amy Lawrence, in Brandon, SD. John and Pat were steadfast in continuing family gatherings centered around their daughters that continued through grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

John worked hard his whole life. For most of his working years, he was self-employed with his painting company, Eastern Plains Painting. Despite attempts to retire, John continued to paint until his health did not allow.

John accepted Christ as his Savior, which led his family to Christ, igniting their love and passion for the Lord.  John enjoyed hunting, traveling, and most of all, spending time with his family and grandbabies. Despite his words failing at the end, John continued to share his overwhelming love of family and country.

John will be deeply missed by his two daughters, Shawna Boehmer (fiancé – Chad Medema), Brandon, and Amy (Kevin) Lawrence, Brandon; five grandchildren, Breanna (Kendrick) Hart, Sioux Falls, Brayden Boehmer, Brandon, and Mariana, Phinley, and Paizley Lawrence, Brandon; five great-grandchildren, Cecilia, Bryleigh, Veda, Khloe, and Aaliyah; four siblings, Jeanne (Ron) Young, Lake Vermillion, Morrie Boehmer, Sioux Falls, Kristi Boehmer, Parkston, and Nancy Hohn, Parkston; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Mary (Young) Boehmer.

July 29, 1938 ~ February 5, 2022

Eugene “Gene” R. Standish, 83, Brandon, passed away Saturday, February 5, 2022, at Ava’s hospice house, from pancreatic cancer.

Visitation with family present will be 5-7pm, Thursday, February 10, 2022, at Faith United Church, Brandon, SD. A time of group sharing will start at 6:00pm.  Funeral Services will begin at 11:00am, Friday, February 11, 2022, also at Faith United Church. Burial will follow at the New Woodlawn Cemetery in Pipestone, MN. In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be directed to Faith United Church or the Brandon Volunteer Fire Department, in Gene’s memory. Masks are encouraged but not mandatory.

Eugene “Gene” Russell Standish was born on July 29, 1938, to Russell and Effie (Spoelstra) Standish, in Hatfield, MN. He grew up in Hatfield and graduated from Pipestone High School in 1956.

Gene was united in marriage to Lois Rasmussen on May 28, 1960. He worked at the Boat Plant in Pipestone after he graduated, until 1961, when they moved to Sioux Falls, SD. In 1966, they moved to Brandon, SD, where he has lived for the past 56 years. Gene worked at Raven Industries for eleven years, and in 1972, began a career in the trucking industry. He worked for American Freight and Yellow Freight, where he retired in 2001. He worked forty years part-time and full-time, driving school bus and a van for the Brandon Valley School District.

Gene has been a member of Faith United Church since 1966. He was a Deacon, worked on various committees, and delivered Meals on Wheels. He served on the Brandon Volunteer Fire Department for twenty years, and has been a long-time member of Teamsters Union 120 (formerly 720). He also was a coach for Little League softball for several years. He liked to travel, fish, watch sports, and attend Twins baseball and Vikings football games with his sons. Gene especially liked spending time with his grandchildren fishing and attending their games, concerts, and other school events.

Grateful for sharing his life is his wife, Lois; his children, Tom (Maridell) Standish, Sioux City, IA, Kim (Paul) Runia, Brandon, Lori (Dana) Cole, Brandon, and Brian (Tracy) Standish, Sioux Falls; daughter-in-law, Cathy Standish (Rick’s wife), Oakdale, MN; grandchildren, Jennifer Standish, Jack Standish, Caitlynn Runia, Caden Runia, Hunter Cole, Tanner Cole, Elizabeth Cole, Katelyn Morehouse (Mason Thomas), and William Winstead; great-grandson, Finn Thomas; brother, Richard (Dehlia) Standish, Whittier, CA; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Gene was preceded in death by his son, Rick Standish; his parents, Russell and Effie Standish; his brother, Donald Standish, and his wife, Irene; and his sister, Delores Totman, and her husband, Earl.

We give thanks and praise to our Lord for the life of Kathryn Leeanne Bader. Kathryn, 67, Sioux Falls, and formerly Brandon, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, January 26, 2022, at her home.

Visitation will be held Monday, January 31, 2022, from 5-7 pm at Heartland Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 1, 2022, at 11:00 am at Heartland Funeral Home in Brandon, SD. Interment will take place at Hills of Rest, Sioux Falls, SD.

Kathryn Leeanne Bader was born to Edwin and Marcella Mary (Jorgenson) Bader on August 17, 1954, in Sioux Falls, SD. She grew up with four sisters and one brother, Daniel, Rosemary, David, Dannelle, Daina, and Dawn. Kathryn attended Lincoln High School and furthered her education at Nettleton Community College. Kathryn met the love of her life, Larry, and together they made a blended family. She held some interesting jobs, but the job she held most to her heart was being a mom, grandma, and great-grandma. Kathryn enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren so very much while she babysat them. She would take them for walks and enjoy the sunshine. She would always get them out of their groundings. Kathryn would sit and watch Law and Order SVU and Walker Texas Ranger while eating Nutty Bars and drinking Diet Coke. She would sit and crochet for hours, making squares so she could sew them together and make quilts for her family. Kathryn and Larry enjoyed taking long drives in the country and getting lost in the sunshine and the oldies.

Kathryn fought a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Kathryn is survived by the love of her life, Larry Soldatke, Sioux Falls; one daughter, Melissa (Jerry) Shrieves, Sioux Falls; two bonus sons, Steven (Jill) Soldatke, Lincoln, NE, and Ryan Soldatke, Sioux Falls; nine grandchildren, Brianna Bader, and her fiancée, Jeffrey James, Tony (Ciara) Shrieves, Deitrich Shrieves, and his fiancée, Taylin Leone, Chrystian Shrieves, Megan Soldatke, Micah Soldatke, Mason Soldatke, Max Soldatke, and Lisa Soldatke; and five great-grandchildren, Mason Deshazo, Tabitha Deshazo, Phoenix Bader, Zachariah Shrieves, and Kingston Shrieves; and two special nonbiological daughters, Dora Hymans and Tina Keagle.

Kathryn was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and Marcella Mary Bader; her brother, Daniel Bader; sister, Rosemary Thill, and niece, Jessica Bader.

October 21, 1943 ~ January 23, 2022

Dale A. Schrick, 78, Hartford, died Sunday, January 23, 2022, at Sanford Foundation Cottage following a valiant battle with cancer.

Visitation with family present will be 5-7pm, Thursday, January 27, 2022, at Abiding Savior Free Lutheran Church, (4100 S. Bahnson Ave., Sioux Falls), with a Funeral Service on Friday, January 28, 2022, at 11:00am.

Dale Alan Schrick was born October 21, 1943, to Richard and Gertrude (Harms) Schrick, in George, IA. He was born and raised in George and graduated high school from George before going to the Army.  Dale married Lynn Knutson on November 19, 1966. To this union, they had one son, Todd. In 1964, Dale moved to Sioux Falls, where he worked for Firestone for 29 years, T.O. Haas for 14 years. Upon retirement, he moved to Wall Lake.

He loved breakfast and coffee with friends, helping with construction and handyman projects. Dale loved NASCAR and Sprint Car racing. Kyle Larson was his favorite. He also enjoyed attending his grandsons’ sporting events and pheasant hunting. He loved going out dancing with Donna, often on Friday or Saturday nights.

Dale will be deeply missed by his special friend, Donna Devries; son, Todd (Susan) Schrick, Sioux Falls; grandsons, Jordan, Sioux Falls, and Travis, Sioux Falls; siblings, Ben (Roxanne) Schrick, Lafayette, LA, Dennis (Gracia) Schrick, George, IA, and Diane Schrick, Northfield, MN; sister-in-law, Ruth Ann Schrick, Richfield, MN; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Gertrude (Harms) Schrick; brother, Richard Schrick; and sister, Martha Schrick.

The family would like the staff at the VA Hospital, the Sanford USD Medical Center, and the Sanford Foundation Hospice Cottage for the excellent care and service.

April 4, 1943 ~ January 22, 2022

Joyce B. Multerer, 78, Brandon, died Saturday, January 22, 2022, at the Canistota Good Samaritan Home following recent health issues.

Visitation with family present will be 9:30am, Saturday, January 29, 2022, at Heartland Funeral Home, with a Memorial Service beginning at 11am. Burial will follow at the Chancellor Reformed Cemetery.

Joyce Bertha Miller was born on April 4, 1943, in Virginia. She was later adopted from a New York orphanage. She lived in Lombard, IL, where she went to school and graduated in 1961. She worked at Sears in Chicago. Joyce married Donald Multerer, on October 24, 1964. They moved around a lot in their early years, living in Chicago, California, Georgia, Massachusetts, and Virginia before settling in Brandon, SD. They welcomed the birth of their son, Michael, on Christmas morning in 1969. Don and Joyce enjoyed dancing and winning trophies.

Joyce loved her son and was his biggest fan. She always supported Michael in all of his activities – basketball, football, baseball, band, and also all of the bands that he played drums in. She traveled with Don for Sencore conventions all over the United States. She particularly loved going to Las Vegas.

Joyce loved her granddaughters and great-grandkids. She was a “Grandma” to many even though they were not biologically hers. She went to all of her granddaughter Harleys’, dance recitals.

She and Don loved to ride their motorcycles. They were members of the Harley Owner’s Group. She loved music and going to concerts and Mike’s gigs. Joyce was an avid bowler. She also loved to roller skate from a young age to adulthood. Joyce loved going shopping, flea markets, and rummage sales. She would model for Christopher & Banks. She was a member of Faith United Church in Brandon. Joyce loved her dogs with all her heart. She made a snicker salad that everyone loved and she made it for every holiday. She loved helping everyone, especially family and friends and she loved her family and friends deeply.

Joyce worked for Coast to Coast, True Value, and Ace Hardware for many years. After that, she worked for the Holiday Inn.

Joyce will be deeply missed by her husband, Don; son, Michael (Coralee) Multerer, Brandon; granddaughters, Chantelle Narum and Harley Jo Multerer; great-grandchildren, Jayden Lee, Alivia Narum, and Avery Lee; many cousins and extended family in What Cheer, IA; and special friends, MaryAnn, Kathy, and Shelly.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, John Miller and Bertha (Cowan) Miller.

August 16, 1952 ~ January 13, 2022

Steven L. Padgett, 69, Valley Springs, died Thursday, January 13, 2022, at his home following recent health issues.

Visitation with family present will be 5-7pm, Monday, January 17, 2022, at Heartland Funeral Home, with a Memorial service beginning at 7pm.

Steven Lee Padgett was born August 16, 1952, in Sioux Falls to Stanley Sr. and Ardis (Bakke) Padgett.  He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1970. He married Julie Joneson on April 29, 1972, in Brandon, SD.

Over the course of his life, Steve worked at several different jobs. Early on, he and Julie owned the bowling alley in Brandon. He worked at various locations of Sunshine. He managed Safety Kleen for 13 years. He enjoyed carpentry and used those skills to build garages, do remodeling, and eventually build a few houses.  Steve was also one of the original developers and builders of Helping Hands Assisted Living in Brandon.  Upon his retirement, he worked for Manley Tire and drove for Lyft.

Steve loved baseball and was a diehard New York Yankees fan.  He played baseball and later softball until he hung up his cleats to coach his son and nephew’s baseball team.  One of his proudest moments was playing with the South Dakota Rushmore’s when they won the over 30 World Series. Steve also loved bowling and had several “300” games. Steve enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and his dogs. He collected and drove several Mustangs throughout his life. The most important thing to Steve was his grandchildren and he loved being able to attend their games.

Steve will be deeply missed by his wife, Julie; two children, Sheri (Duane Klay) Padgett, Brandon and Chad (Alisha) Padgett, Brandon; four grandchildren, Mason, Colton, Alyvia, and Avalynn; one brother, Stanley Padgett, Jr.; two nieces and 1 nephew, Dawn Noel, Jake (Janet) Padgett, Jessie (Matt) Finn; and one brother-in-law, Richard (Lisa) Joneson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley L., Sr. and Ardis B. (Bakke) Padgett.

David W. Sansoucie, 59, Sioux Falls, died Sunday, December 12, 2021, at the Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, following multiple health issues.

David lived a happy life. Working on cars was his passion. He also enjoyed fishing with his family and family time. He was a beloved brother, son, father, grandfather, and friend.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara; two sons, Steven and Brandon; daughter, Jessica; step-children, Daphne, Amanda, and Jeannine; one sister, Tina Sansoucie; and many grandchildren, nephews, and nieces.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Marie Burnia; his father, Wilford T. Sansoucie; two brothers, Michael Ray Sansoucie and Glen (Dink) Sansoucie; and one sister, Mary Rich.

Thomas “Tom” S. Mulroy, 79, of Valley Springs, died peacefully on Sunday, December 26, 2021, at Palisade Healthcare Center in Garretson, SD.

Thomas “Tom” Stanley Mulroy was born on July 2, 1942, in Sioux Falls, SD, to Walter and Avis (Wernick) Mulroy. On April 13, 1963, Tom married Kathie Ward and they were blessed with two sons; Shane and Troy. The family lived in Gardena, CA, for two years where Tom worked at Appliance Plating. The family moved back to SD and to the Valley Springs area in 1972. Tom worked on the pork cut floor and in maintenance for John Morrell and Co for 41 years until he retired in 2008.

Tom enjoyed hunting, snowmobiling, camping, restoring old cars and attending many classic car shows. In his retirement, he enjoyed living a peaceful life on the acreage, where the couple lived for nearly 49 years, and spending time with family and friends.

Tom will be deeply missed by his wife of 58 years, Kathie; two sons, Shane (Jodi) Mulroy, Valley Springs, and Troy (Patsy) Mulroy, Flandreau; five grandchildren, BreAnna (Alex) Twedt, Kylie (Gage Small Mulroy, Thomas, Seth, and Abby Mulroy; three great-grandchildren, Parker, Nolan and Carter; one brother, Bill (Pat) Mulroy, Beresford, SD, and one sister, Debbie Farr, Hartford, SD; many nieces and nephews; special friends, Willis and Cherry Hunter, Shade and Dorothy Essem, Bruce and Karen Petersen, and Ingrid Hoff; and many furry feline friends.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Walt and Avis Mulroy; two siblings, Janice Westby and Jeannette Spotted-Eagle; three brothers-in-law, Virgil Westby, Chuck Spotted-Eagle, and Gerry Farr.

Blaine L Wilson 57, Sioux Falls, Died Tuesday, December 21, 2021, at his home, following multiple health issues.

In lieu of flowers, a Memorial has been established in Blaine’s honor to help the South Dakota debate community.

Blaine Lyn Wilson was born on May 19, 1964, to Jim and Vera (Foss) Wilson of Bison, South Dakota. When he wasn’t herding cattle on the family ranch, Blaine was active in football, basketball, and track, where he set records that he claimed still stood to this day (mainly because they no longer run the event). After graduating from Bison High School, he attended the University of South Dakota where he achieved a Bachelor of Science in Education and developed a healthy disdain for the Jackrabbits. He used this degree for a year while teaching in Artesian before moving up to Sioux Falls where he jumped between a variety of sales jobs.

In 1993, Blaine met Susan Francis and they soon became inseparable. They were married on November 25, 1995, and were blessed with their two sons, Tyler and Brendan, who brought them immense amounts of joy. Being a husband and father was a huge part of Blaine’s life.  He loved spending time with his kids while they were growing up as their soccer coach, softball parent, and when the boys got into high school, he became involved with the Debate program, judging every weekend he was available. He often gave thanks that they didn’t force him into becoming a show choir parent.  Blaine and Susan celebrated their 10^th Wedding Anniversary with the boys at Walt Disney in FL.  Then, for their 20^th Wedding Anniversary, Blaine took Susan to Cozumel, Mexico, for a week of relaxation and sun.

Blaine was in the Army National Guard and Air National Guard for over 20 years.  Being in the National Guard allowed Blaine to travel to Panama, Canada, Germany and more.  Based on the stories he loved to tell, he was proud to serve his country. He also became a Certified Lay Minister through the United Methodist Church which included service as the Conference Lay Leader for the Dakotas Conference. His faith was important to him, and he helped several congregations that no longer had a pastor continue to have services by putting together a team of individuals to help them continue worshiping the Lord.

Despite the grey hairs caused by his children, Blaine was still a kid at heart. A true Goofy Goober, his sense of humor was always present, and he never heard a Dad Joke that couldn’t be repeated. He raised his kids on SpongeBob and Veggie Tales and wouldn’t hesitate to use his dulcet tones to belt out the “Rubber Ducky” song. He developed his own brand of dances specifically for putting on pajamas and loved to give the young cousins an ‘upside down belly zurbit’. He always thought that his kids were number one, no matter how much they pestered him.  

Blaine will be dearly missed by his wife of 26 years, Susan; his two sons, Tyler, Eagan, MN, and Brendan, Eden Prairie, MN; his brother, Paul (Jacki) Wilson, Mina Lake, SD; and his sister, Paula (Rex) Eichelberger, Avoca, IA; his aunt and uncle, Myrna and Chuck Mertz, Belle Fourche, SD; his aunt, Elaine Peck, Parker, CO; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear family friends.

Blaine was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Vera (Foss) Wilson; and his aunt and uncle, Bonnie and Hugh Scarborough.
