John V. Boehmer, 71, Brandon, died Monday, February 7, 2022, at the Lennox Good Samaritan Nursing Home after recent health issues.
Visitation with the family will begin at 9:30 am, Tuesday, February 15, 2022, at Brandon Assembly of God Church. A Celebration of Life will begin at 10:30 am followed by burial at the SD State Veteran’s Cemetery at Noon. A reception will begin at 1 pm at the Brandon VFW.
John Victor Boehmer was born in Parkston, SD, to Joe & Mary (Young) Boehmer on February 15, 1950. John grew up outside of Parkston on the family farm with his four siblings. John graduated from Parkston High School in 1968 and was drafted into the US Army at age 19. John, an Airborne Ranger, proudly served in the Vietnam War from 1970 – 1971, with N Company, 75th Ranger Battalion, of the 173rd Airborne Brigade. John was the recipient of many medals including the Combat Infantryman’s Badge and the Bronze Star with Valor.
John was united in marriage to Pat Landreth on November 3, 1973. They raised two daughters, Shawna Boehmer and Amy Lawrence, in Brandon, SD. John and Pat were steadfast in continuing family gatherings centered around their daughters that continued through grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
John worked hard his whole life. For most of his working years, he was self-employed with his painting company, Eastern Plains Painting. Despite attempts to retire, John continued to paint until his health did not allow.
John accepted Christ as his Savior, which led his family to Christ, igniting their love and passion for the Lord. John enjoyed hunting, traveling, and most of all, spending time with his family and grandbabies. Despite his words failing at the end, John continued to share his overwhelming love of family and country.
John will be deeply missed by his two daughters, Shawna Boehmer (fiancé – Chad Medema), Brandon, and Amy (Kevin) Lawrence, Brandon; five grandchildren, Breanna (Kendrick) Hart, Sioux Falls, Brayden Boehmer, Brandon, and Mariana, Phinley, and Paizley Lawrence, Brandon; five great-grandchildren, Cecilia, Bryleigh, Veda, Khloe, and Aaliyah; four siblings, Jeanne (Ron) Young, Lake Vermillion, Morrie Boehmer, Sioux Falls, Kristi Boehmer, Parkston, and Nancy Hohn, Parkston; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Mary (Young) Boehmer.
