Eddy Lane was born May 23, 1993, to parents Rosie Purcell and Keith Elsberry in Watertown, SD. He attended preschool in Lennox, kindergarten in Canton, 1st grade in Beaver Creek, MN, 2nd to 5th grade in Valley Springs Elementary in Valley Springs, and the rest of his school career was in Brandon.

Eddy Lane worked with his father, Keith Elsberry at Elsberry Construction learning the family business, from the time he was old enough to hold a hammer. He loved to work with his dad and when he could, he would jump in to help his friends. Eddy would be there for any friend with no hesitation, working on cars or helping friends move. Whatever they needed, he was always there with a mischievous smile and occasionally a half baked idea for some fun that his mom may or may not approve of.

Eddy Lane had a lot of passions in life; first and for most was his friends and family. He touched a lot of people in his short life. He grew up in the pits of the mud races cheering on his dad and his uncle, Don. They were the Ugly Bro’s race team.

Those grateful for sharing his life include his mom, Rosie Purcell of Valley Springs, and his dad, Keith Elsberry of Brandon; his sisters, Jenna (Curt) Lewandowski of Watertown and Anna (Daniel) Koch of Lennox; his best friends, Trevor (aka Buck) Buckholz of Valley Springs, SD, Brandon (aka WATTers) Watters of Valley Springs, Colton (aka Coltron) Olofson, and all of his other close friends; his grandmother, Vonnie Elsberry of Coon Rapids, MN; his aunts and uncles, Shirley (Stacy) Thaden of Marvin, Clarissa Purcell of Canastota, Betty (Steve) Seifert of Scotland, Dan Elsberry of Coon Rapids, MN, Don (Freedom) Flickinger of DeSmet; Michael (Jennifer) Reinhardt; cousins, Jessica Reinhardt, Christina Thaden, Tabitha Thaden, Fleesha (Parker) Willfong, Mollie Murry, Amanda Seifert, Ashley Seifert, Amber Seifert, Daniel Elsberry Jr; Eddy’s godson, Ashton Edward Lewandowski; and many other extended family members; and one other person special to Eddy, his guardian angel, Greg Johnson.

  • I am so sorry for your loss He was Brandons best friend and he will be greatly missed

    FOR YOU EDDY !!!

    _ To my dearest family,
Some things i’d like to say
But first of all to let you know
    That i arrived OK.

    Im writing this from Heaven,
Where i dwell with God above
Where theres no more tears or sadness.
    There is just eternal love.

    Please do not be unhappy
    Just because I’m out of sight;
    Remember that I’m with you,
    Every morning, noon and night.

That day i had to leave you
When my life on earth was through
God picked me up and hugged me
And he said I welcome you.

Its good to have you back again
You were missed while you were gone
    As for your dearest family
    They’ll be here later on.

I need you here so badly
As part of My big plan,
There’s so much that we have to do,
    To help our mortal man.

Then God gave me a list of things
He wished for me to do,
And foremost on that list of mine,
Is to watch and care for you.

And i will be beside you,
    Every day, week and year,
And when your sad i’m standing there
    To wipe away the tear.

And when you lie in bed at night,
The day’s chores put to flight,
God and I closer to you
In the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth
    And all those living years,
    Because your only human
They are bound to bring you tears.

But do not be afraid to cry,
    It dose relieve the pain;
Remember there would be no flowers
    Unless there was some rain.

I wish that i could tell you
Of all that God has planned,
But if i were to tell you,
    You wouldn’t understand.

But one thing is for certain
Though my life on earth is over,
    I’m closer to you now
    Then i ever was before.

And to my very many friends
Trust God knows what is best
I’m still not far away from you
    I’m just beyond the crest.

There are rocky roads ahead of you
    And many hills to climb,
But together we can do it,
Taking one day at a time.

    It was always my philosophy
And i’d like it for you too
That as you give unto the World
So the world will give to you.

    If you can help somebody
Who’s in sorrow or in pain,
Then you can say to god at night
My day was not in vain.

    And now i am contended
That my life it was worth while
Knowing that i passed along the way
    I made somebody smile.

    So if you meet somebody
Who is down and feeling low
Just lend a hand to pick him up
As on your way you go.

When you are walking down the street
And you’ve got me on your mind
    I’m walking in your footsteps
    Only half a step behind.

And when you feel that gentle breeze
Or the wind apon your face
Thats me giving you a great big hug
    Or just a soft embrace

And when its time for you to go
From that body to be free
    Remenber you are not going
You are coming here to me.

And i will always love you
From the land way up apove,
    Will be in touch soon
    P.S. God sends HIS LOVE

  • RS Freedom Flickinger says:

Eddie… you know we love you… and your mom and dad… they say you cant pick your family… but we got to… glad you are family… will miss you soooo much… found this poem awhile back… it reminds me of me… but it also reminds me of you…

When I say that ‘I am a Christian’, I am not shouting that ‘I am clean living.
I’m whispering ‘I was lost, but now I’m found and forgiven.’

When I say ‘I am a Christian’ I don’t speak of this with pride.
I’m confessing that I stumble and need Christ to be my guide.

When I say ‘I am a Christian’ I’m not trying to be strong.
I’m professing that I’m weak and need His strength to carry on.

When I say ‘I am a Christian’ I’m not bragging of success.
I’m admitting I have failed and need God to clean my mess.

When I say ‘I am a Christian’ I’m not claiming to be perfect.
My flaws are far too visible, but God believes I am worth it.

When I say ‘I am a Christian’ I still feel the sting of pain.
I have my share of heartaches, so I call upon His name.

When I say ‘I am a Christian’ I’m not holier than thou,
I’m just a simple sinner who received God’s good grace, somehow!

miss you Eddy… is going to be tough… but we know you are going to watch over all of us… (what a job that is going to be)

I met your son Eddy a few times through my grandson, Brandon. He had been to our house several times. The few times I did meet Eddy he was smiling and very polite. While I can’t even begin to know your loss, my heart is breaking for you. God must have needed a special angel Heaven that day. One thing that gets me through loss of a loved one is know that we have been promised that we will see them again some day. While in our life time here on earth, time seems to move slowly, but eternity is forever and that is how long you will have with your precious son the next time you see his smiling face.
