Gary Anderson, 66, Brandon, died Sunday, June 16, 2019, at his home.
Memorial Services will be 1pm, Wednesday, June 19, 2019, at Brandon Lutheran Church, (600 East Holly Avenue, Brandon, SD 57005) with visitation beginning at Noon. Inurnment will be in Kennebec, SD, at a later date.

Gary Thomas Anderson was born on March 8, 1953 in Hoven, SD to Clarence and Mary Anderson. He was raised in Selby, SD and graduated from Selby High School in 1971.
Once graduating from high school, Gary attended Northern State College where he graduated in 1975. After college, Gary moved to Pierre, SD where he worked for Farm Credit Services. It was in Pierre that Gary met his beloved wife Cheryl Halverson. The two were married in November of 1977 and enjoyed 41 happy years of marriage together.
Their son, Collin Thomas, was born in April of 1979. Shortly after, the family moved to Mobridge, SD where Gary continued his career at Farm Credit Services. Shayna Elizabeth was born in December of 1985, making their family complete.
In 1995, Gary and Cheryl bought Anderson’s Footwear and Apparel. They operated the business together in Mobridge for 15 years before they sold the store in 2010. After selling the store, Gary began work as an independent crop adjuster with Rain and Hail.
Gary continued to work as a crop adjuster when he and Cheryl relocated to Brandon in 2011. Gary retired from crop adjusting in April of 2019. Gary was also a smiling face at the Sanford Pentagon where he was able to combine work with play and do two of his favorite things: talk to people and watch sports. As an avid sports fan, Gary loved every level of competition from youth to professional. His favorite sport was football and his favorite team to follow was the Chargers until they moved to Los Angeles.
Gary’s smile and infectious laugh was loved by many. He could strike up a conversation with anyone and always made sure no one felt left out. Gary had a special way of making everyone he came into contact with feel important. He was selfless, kind-hearted, and courageous. Gary always put others first and did so until the very end of his life.
Gary will be greatly missed by his wife, Cheryl; children, Collin, Denver, CO and Shayna, Minneapolis; and Gary’s pride and joy, grandson, Caden Thomas, Denver, CO; sisters, Ramona Sebert, Aberdeen and Norma Hagman, Belle Fourche; parents-in-law, Harlan and June Halverson, and the large Halverson family.
Gary was preceded in death by his father and mother, Clarence and Mary Anderson and his brother-in-law, Leonard Sebert.
We are so sorry for your loss! Gary was such a positive person with a contagious ready smile. You and your family are surrounded in Gods love. He will be missed.

I am so sorry to hear about Gary. Keeping you all in my heart and prayers. Know that God will always be with all of you in this time of loss. Gary was so kind hearted n never got upset about anything loved working with him. Yes always a smile on his face. Gary will be missed.
I was so sorry to hear this news. Gary was a family friend and was loved by my parents. I agree with the “infectious smile.” I remember him as being so kind. Prayers are with his family and friends during this extremely difficult time and moving forward.

So sorry to hear Gary has passed away. He sat behind me in grade school, tormented me through high school, we all (36 of us) cryed when we graduated in 71. Our theme was “we’ve only just begun”! LOL, we had no idea. I saw Gary often thru the years and yes, his kaughter, smile, and warm personality we infection. My heart goes out to his family. God grant you peace.

Rest in Peace dear friend. I was in school with Gary grades 1 – 12 in Selby. He was always the first one chosen on any school team competition. All around great-guy. Rest in Peace.
From a little girl walking into Anderson’s in Mobridge and meeting Gary his smile and warmth (a long with Cheryl’s) made me want to go shopping there time and time again. The last time I saw Gary was in Anderson’s but as a shopper rather than a store owner just a few years ago. The smile and warmth was the same as I knew as a little girl. Such a beautiful soul.
Cheryl and family – I wish I had the words to take away your pain. Remember the Lord is holding you in the palm of his hand even when it may seem he is the furthest away.

We were shocked and saddened to hear about Gary. We enjoyed working with him when we were young farmers at the Land Bank and will never forget the trip to Watertown with the two of you. Your shoe store in Mobridge was the best and we always enjoyed coming in and being greeted with a smile and friendly conversation. Please be comforted in knowing that God is with you and will carry you through this very difficult time. We are thinking of you and praying for you and your family. God Bless

So saddened to hear about Gary’s death. I will always remember him as a truly nice person. Even though I didn’t see him frequently after I eft the Selby area whenever I would see him it was like neither of us had ever left the area. My prayers are with you family.
