James Vance Sexton
July 14, 1930 ~ February 24, 2012
James V. Sexton, 81, of Sioux Falls, died Friday, February 24, 2012, at home, surrounded by his loving family.
Private family services will be scheduled for a later date.
Jim was born in Aurelia, IA, on July 14, 1930 to Frank and Ruth (Rice) Sexton. Jim graduated from Aurelia High school in 1948. He enlisted in the Air force in 1951 and served at various Air Force bases as a medic during the Korean War.
He graduated from Presentation School of Nursing 1957 as a Registered Nurse, where he met his wife, Colleen Charlton of Worthing, S.D. Jim and Colleen were married on April 26, 1957 in Sioux Falls, S.D. Jim graduated from the Mayo Clinic as a Nurse Anesthetist in 1963.
The couple and their family resided in the Duluth, MN area for many years. Jim spent much of his time exploring the area and painting the beautiful scenery of the Great Lake area. His home is decorated with many of his great creations.
He is survived by his wife, Colleen; five sons, Mike (Julie), Emerson, NE, Dave (Patty), Salem, SD, Steve (Lynn), Estera, FL, Paul, Sioux Falls, and Mark (Paula), St. Cloud, MN; ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Marilyn and her husband Holger.

Jim was a very special individual. I care for Jim when he was a patient at Davita, we had many talks and I also admired his artwork. He told many stories of his grandkids and show his artwork to all. He will be greatly missed by everyone he touched. My thoughts and prayers are with the family during this time.

Colleen, hope you have an idea how much you have meant to me, and Jim became part of the package early in my life. Have so many great memories of all of you. am with you in spirit. Dear Dad,
Thank you for everything you meant to me! I will miss you – and I am so grateful for you and mom let me be a part of the family! I will never forget the time we had together – in Duluth at my senior year and when you and mom came to Norway for a visit. I will always lissen to Fiddler on the Roof – and think of you…. We had some really nice conversations – and you gave me knowledge I will bring with me for the rest of my life. Your memories will live on with me – and I see you and mom every day at my office on the picture I have.

Colleen and family, I am deeply saddened to hear of Jim’s passing. I always looked forward to my visits with Jim in the dialysis unit. He always had a story to tell! At the forefront of the artwork in my house (we have a painter in the family!) is Jim’s painting of a row of buildings on a water scene. It is the first thing people see when we welcome them into our home, and I am always so proud to tell people, “My patient painted that…” I am even more grateful to have it now, because I always, always think of him when I look at it. God bless. I consider myself fortunate to have gotten to know him and consider him a good friend…
