Julie Ellen (Swanson) Plummer
May 25, 1960 ~ August 15, 2013
Julie E. Plummer, 53, Brandon, died Thursday, August 15, 2013, at home, surrounded by her family, following a courageous battle with cancer.
Visitation will be from 5:00 until 8:00pm, Monday, August 19, 2013, at Heartland Funeral Home, with family present 6-8pm. Celebration of life will begin at 10:30am, Tuesday, August 20, at Brandon Lutheran Church with Pastor Marlin Haugrud officiating. Interment will follow at Hills of Rest Cemetery in Sioux Falls.
Julie Ellen Swanson was born May 25, 1960, in Milwaukee, WI, to Jack and Lois Swanson. She was raised in the Edina, Minnesota area and graduated from Edina West H.S. She attended and graduated from Augustana College in 1982 with a BA in Nursing. Julie was a R.N. with Sanford Hospital for over thirty years until her illness caused her to retire. During her nursing career she spent the first six and last five years in the NICU. Julie was a distinguished and honored nurse, but family was her first priority. Any activity or time spent with her family is what she cherished most.
Julie will be deeply missed by her husband, Chuck; daughter, Kelsey Brandon, SD; sons Benjamin (Laura) Plummer, Tea, SD.; AJ (fiancé Ashley) Brandon, SD.; her parents, Jack and Joanna Swanson, Edina, MN; brother, John Swanson, Eden Prairie, MN; sister, Kristin (Jon) Engman, Edina, MN; parent-in-laws, Wayne (Patricia) Plummer, Honey Creek, IA; sister-in-law, Cheryl (Dave) Andrews, Urbandale, IA and many nieces and nephews.
Julie was preceded in death by her mother, Lois Swanson and her mother-in-law, Arlene Plummer.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to PANCAN (Pancreatic Cancer Action Network) in Julie’s honor.
I only had the pleasure of working with Julie the last 18 months, but I was so impressed by her innate sense of caring; her graciousness with family and co workers, and her integrity. Julie truly set an example of what professional nursing is all about.
God’s peace to her family, she will be missed.

Oh my,, courageous indeed, all of you! She always had all your best interests at heart. You can be so proud of her efforts as a nurse, a Mom and a wife. I am so very sad that we will not be able to attend the celebration of Julie’s life service as we tragically lost a cousin on Thurs. we are leaving for Littleton, co. My condolences to the family. It is incomprehensible the pain, the hurt, family and friends feel for the loss of this loved one. When the sands of time cease to fall in life, only prayer can comfort those of broken hearts.

I met Julie in Sunday school, around age 6. We became close friends for many, many years. I was just crushed to hear the news and my heart goes out to all who knew her. She was a big part of my growing up and I learned a lot from her, she was so sweet and kind and generous and funny and I know she will be deeply missed. Please know you are all in my thoughts and prayers.

I had the pleasure to know Julie for many years through work. I was blessed by her compassionate nature, friendly smile and gentle loving care she provided to the babies in our care. Julie had a wonderful sense of humor that helped all of us get through the tough days. I know she had a deep rich faith and is now enjoying time with her Savior.

I worked in Healthformation at Sanford with Julie where she was an important part of that team. I am saddened to hear of your loss and ask God to comfort and sustain all of you at this time.

Although we didn’t know Julie well, Ben, and our son, Brandon, grew up together and became fast friends, especially during high school. Ben was a staple at our house for many years. She may be gone, but memories live forever. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family.

I was on vacation and just got back last night when I heard that Julie had passed away and am so very saddened for you all. When I think of Julie I remember how sweet and loving she was to her family, her quiet sense of humor and how supportive she was as a neighbor and friend when Dave passed away. I do know the pain you are living right now but time helps erase some of that pain and good memories take over which I know your family has many of. Lean on your faith, friends and family and know that I am praying for you all. I am very sad that I was gone and not able to join in her celebration of life yesterday….she will be missed by many…..
