Lois Lenore Joneson was born November 21, 1929 at the family farm north of Valley Springs. She was the fifth daughter of Gust and Johanna (Nielsen) Joneson. She was proud to be the fifth generation member of Beaver Valley Church, Valley Springs, SD. Her grandparents, Swan and Eilmemia Joneson were founding members of the church. Lois was baptized, December 12, 1929, confirmed May 6, 1945, and married to Ralph Hansen, June 9, 1950, at Beaver Valley.

Lois attended Sunny Wood Grade School and graduated from Valley Springs High School. She attended Sioux Falls College and General Beadle Teachers College, Madison, SD. She taught at the Roadside School before marriage. In 1967, she started working for the US Postal Service and retired in 1993.

Although she lived in three different states, Lois was never more than nine miles from Beaver Valley where she was actively involved teaching Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, Bible Study, and the church women organization. She also served as a member of the church council and the cemetery board.

In the community, Lois was a member of the Minnehaha Co. Extension Club. She also was the first woman to be elected to the Brandon Valley School Board where she served nine years.

After a great deal of study, thought and prayer in 2011, Lois left the ELCA and Beaver Valley Church. She became a charter member of the NALC and Spirit of Truth Lutheran Church, Brandon, SD.

Uncle Ralph, Jeff, Tim, and families, I am sorry I can’t be there to give all of you hugs. Even though we know Aunt Loie is celebrating Christmas with Jesus this year, it still leaves those of us that love her with sad and heavy hearts. What a wonderful Joneson reunion is taking place right now in heaven. I am so blessed to be a part of this family and have had her for my aunt. Love and prayers to all of you. Ray and Ruth

Lois will be missed by many. We have learned so much from her example as a Christian, wife and mother. Ron and I will remember her always with much love. It has been both a pleasure and a joy having Lois in our lives for so many years. We thank God for her life and our time with her.

Uncle Ralph, Jeff, Tim & families,
I am so sad to hear of Aunt Lois’ passing. I have the best childhood memories of Joneson reunions–the fun, the laughter and the food!! No trip to Valley Springs with Grandma Norma went without a stop at the drug store to see Aunt Helen and then to your house. I can only imagine the welcome home Aunt Lois received this week. May the good & happy memories of Aunt Lois sustain you in the days and weeks to come and know that I will be keeping all of you in my thoughts and prayers.

Uncle Ralph, Jeff and Tim, I’m sorry I can’t be there to share the many memories of Aunt Loie in person. I remember many wonderful fun times on the farm and especially the fish fries when the Hansens from Texas and the Tucker’s from Michigan would come in the summer. Now she gone to be with the angels and all those family members who have gone before her. They must be having a great reunion. Love you all and will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

Dear Uncle Ralph, Jeff and Tim and families, You are all in my thoughts and prayers. I miss Aunt Lois already. Even though I am so far away we talked all the time and I am going to miss that so much. Our last visit was so great. I have so many special memories of Uncle Ralph and Aunt Lois. They were so good to let LeAnn and I stay with them when Tommy had his heart surgery at the Mayo Clinic when we were little. She loved her children and grandchildren and now great grandchildren so much. I know you will all miss her. Love to you all Sharlene and Wayne
